Wastewater Line Installation Project Will Close Two Sections of J Street

Beginning on Monday, June 3rd, two sections of J Street will be closed to through traffic while the roadway is paved in connection with a wastewater line installation project.

The four-block section of J Street between 16th Avenue and 20th Avenue and the two-block section of J Street between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue will both be closed through at least Friday, June 7th.

Access to the DSHS office on 16th Avenue will be maintained while the paving project is underway, although traffic in the area will likely be congested.  Traffic controls will be in place while the project is underway to help drivers navigate through the construction zone and to an available detour route.

Crews from TTC Construction, a Yakima-based contracting firm, have been working to install a 12-inch diameter wastewater line since earlier this year.  During the week of June 3rd through June 7th, TTC crews will also be working on a different section of the line near the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Pine Street. However, that part of the project will not involve any road closures.

During the J Street paving project, traffic delays in the project areas are likely to occur.  Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the project is completed.

Access to homes and businesses in the project areas will be maintained and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project areas if necessary.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
