The Yakima Police Department is conducting a community survey in the interest of improving our service to the citizens of Yakima.

On October 10, 1500 survey forms were mailed to residents in selected neighborhoods seeking opinions on important issues in their area. The results of these surveys will help the department better serve and target individual community needs. An online survey is expected to be implemented soon.

The City of Yakima policy makers operate under the “Priorities of Government” model for making budget and policy decisions.
Consistent with this model, in October 2009 the City of Yakima distributed our Community Needs Survey to select neighborhoods in central Yakima. Administered through the police department, the survey is an attempt to determine the specific needs of those select neighborhoods. Anticipating that crime will be a common issue shared by those neighborhoods, the surveys tend to focus on criminal activity and our response to crime.
However, the survey also includes questions regarding other needs and how city government might respond to those needs. The results of the surveys will assist the police department and other city departments to determine priorities and to respond more specifically to the community needs.
This survey and earlier versions were mailed out, collected and sorted.
We anticipate a web-based version soon will be available to all city residents and the data can be collected on an on going basis.
