Yakima Police Department SWAT:
The Yakima Police Department SWAT team consists
of a Tactical and a Negotiations Unit. The tactical
unit is a multi jurisdictional unit with 20 YPD
members and 3 Yakima Sheriffs Office members. The
negotiations unit consists of 7 members. The team
operates as a decentralized unit consisting of
all entities from the police department. There
are members from patrol, traffic and detectives.
The team trains approximately 17 days a year on
a monthly basis.
The Yakima Police Department SWAT team's purpose
is to have top of the line specialized training
and equipment to assist in resolving any situation.
This equipment and training includes an armored
vehicle, chemical agents, smoke grenades, flash
bangs, snipers, large and small ballistic shields,
less lethal options and tactical knowledge to
safely handle any given mission.
The Tactical Unit consists of a team of professional,
highly trained, skilled and motivated law enforcement
officers who have been specially selected, trained
and equipped to respond to and resolve hostage
incidents, barricaded gunman incidents, sniper
situations, high risk apprehensions, high risk
warrant service, personal protection and other
special assignments, which are beyond the capability
of other police personnel.
