{"id":10517,"date":"2021-05-14T10:45:04","date_gmt":"2021-05-14T17:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=10517"},"modified":"2021-05-14T10:53:34","modified_gmt":"2021-05-14T17:53:34","slug":"temporary-road-surface-planned-for-north-1st-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/temporary-road-surface-planned-for-north-1st-street\/","title":{"rendered":"Temporary Road Surface Planned for  North 1st Street"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A temporary road surface is planned for a section of North 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street as part of Phase 2 of an ongoing revitalization project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting Monday, May 17<sup>th<\/sup>, the road surface of North 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street from I Street to N Street will consist of asphalt grindings through 5:00 pm each day. After 5:00 pm a steel plate will be used as a road surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traffic, which has been reduced to two lanes since Phase 2 began in April, will be delayed further because of the temporary roadway. Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes if possible, and extreme caution is urged for motorcycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is estimated the temporary roadway will be in place for two to three weeks so crews can install utility services under North 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Access to homes and businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related works zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The North 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street Revitalization Project is intended to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians and increase the economic development potential of the North 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street corridor, one of the main entrances to the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click the following link to scroll through a story map created by City of Yakima Information Technology Services showing all three phases of the project &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/5adf75c8a5ba4b9bad67af6dc08defc0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/5adf75c8a5ba4b9bad67af6dc08defc0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regular updates on the progress of the North 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street Revitalization Project will be provided through the City\u2019s various communications platforms including the City website, City social media sites, news releases and Y-PAC programming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/North-1st-Street-Revitalization-Phase-2-Update-News-Release.pdf\">North-1st-Street-Revitalization-Phase-2-Update-News-Release<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/North-1st-Street-Revitalization-Phase-2-Update-News-Release.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A temporary road surface is planned for a section of North 1st Street as part of Phase 2 of an ongoing revitalization project.
