An ongoing project to resurface several key sections of Yakima streets this summer and fall will impact traffic on sections of 16th<\/sup> Avenue, Walnut Street, Tieton Drive, 40th<\/sup> Avenue, and Summitview Avenue from September 9th<\/sup> through September 12th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Between Englewood\u00a0\u00a0Avenue and River Road, 16th<\/sup> Avenue will be closed to all but local traffic from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am on both Monday, September 9th<\/sup> and Tuesday, September 10th<\/sup>. \u00a0Only one lane of traffic in each direction on 16th<\/sup> Avenue will be open.\u00a0 Detours will be available.\u00a0 Drivers trying to cross 16th<\/sup> Avenue during those hours will experience significant delays.\u00a0 The use of alternate routes is highly encouraged.<\/p>\n

Tieton Drive between 32nd<\/sup> Avenue and 40th<\/sup> Avenue will be restricted to one lane in each direction from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am on both Monday, September 9th<\/sup> and Tuesday, September 10th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Walnut between 1st<\/sup> Street and 7th<\/sup> Street will be closed from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am on both Wednesday, September 11th<\/sup> and Thursday, September 12th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Detours will be available.\u00a0 Drivers trying to cross Walnut during those hours will experience significant delays.\u00a0 The use of alternate routes is highly encouraged.<\/p>\n

40th<\/sup>\u00a0Avenue between Tieton\u00a0Drive and Summitview Avenue will be restricted to one lane in each direction from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am on both Wednesday, September 11th<\/sup> and Thursday, September 12th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Lane closures may also occur on Tieton Drive during the day from Monday, September 9th<\/sup> through Thursday, September 12th<\/sup> while concrete work is underway.<\/p>\n

The City is spending $5 million dollars this year completing what\u2019s known as a \u201cgrind and overlay\u201d project in order to recondition roadway sections in different parts of Yakima.\u00a0 A grind and overlay project involves removing old and deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt, which significantly improves the drivability and safety of the road surface.<\/p>\n

The majority of work being done on the grind and overlay project is taking place overnight in order to reduce impact to traffic.<\/p>\n

Access to homes and businesses in the project areas will be maintained as best as possible and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project areas if necessary.<\/p>\n

As always, the schedule for these types of projects is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.<\/p>\n
