An ongoing project to resurface several key sections of Yakima streets this summer and fall will impact traffic on sections of 16th<\/sup> Avenue, Walnut Street, Tieton Drive, 40th<\/sup> Avenue and Summitview from September 11h<\/sup> through September 12th<\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n

16th<\/sup> \u00a0 Avenue between Englewood and River Road will be closed to crossing<\/span><\/i> traffic tonight, <\/span>Wednesday night, September 11th<\/sup><\/span> from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving one final lane of traffic.<\/p>\n

One lane of traffic will be allowed in each direction on 16th<\/sup> \u00a0 Avenue.\u00a0 Detours will be available.\u00a0 Drivers trying to cross 16th<\/sup> Avenue during those hours may experience significant delays. \u00a0The use of alternate routes is highly encouraged.<\/p>\n

*** NEW PAVING LOCATION & CLOSURE ***<\/p>\n

During pavement grinding on Tieton Drive, roadway conditions arose such that<\/p>\n

force us to change paving locations with short notice.<\/p>\n

Tieton Drive between 32nd<\/sup> Avenue and 40th<\/sup> Avenue will be closed tonight, September 11th<\/sup><\/span> and Thursday night, September 12th<\/sup> from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving.\u00a0 Detours will be available.\u00a0 The use of alternate routes is highly encouraged.<\/p>\n

Summitview Avenue between 48th<\/sup> Avenue and 56th<\/sup> Avenue will be restricted to one lane in each direction from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am on both tonight, September 11th<\/sup><\/span> and Thursday night, September 12th<\/sup> from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for pavement grinding.<\/p>\n

On Tieton Drive expect curb lane closures during the day for concrete work.<\/p>\n

The City is spending $5 million dollars this year completing what\u2019s known as a \u201cgrind and overlay\u201d project in order to recondition roadway sections in different parts of Yakima.\u00a0 A grind and overlay project involves removing old and deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt, which significantly improves the drivability and safety of the road surface.<\/p>\n

The majority of work being done on the grind and overlay project will take place overnight in order to reduce impact to traffic.<\/p>\n

While the grind and overlay work is underway, traffic delays in the project areas will occur.\u00a0 Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.<\/p>\n

Access to homes and businesses in the project areas will be maintained as best as possible and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project areas if necessary.<\/p>\n

As always, the schedule for these types of projects is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.<\/p>\n
