{"id":1085,"date":"2013-09-16T15:06:55","date_gmt":"2013-09-16T22:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=1085"},"modified":"2013-09-16T15:06:55","modified_gmt":"2013-09-16T22:06:55","slug":"citywide-road-resurfacing-project-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/citywide-road-resurfacing-project-continues\/","title":{"rendered":"Citywide Road Resurfacing Project Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An ongoing project to resurface several key sections of Yakima streets this summer and fall will impact traffic on sections of 16<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue, Walnut Street, 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue, and Summitview Avenue and Tieton Drive from September 16<sup>th<\/sup> through September 19<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The intersection of 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue &amp; Tieton Drive will be closed Monday, September 16<sup>th<\/sup> at 8:00 pm until mid morning on Tuesday, September 17<sup>th<\/sup> for a complete dig out and placement of an asphalt base.\u00a0 Detours will be in place.\u00a0 The use of alternate routes is highly encouraged.<\/p>\n<p>Summitview Avenue between 48<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and 56<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue will be closed at night to all through traffic beginning at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 17<sup>th<\/sup> through 6:00 am on Wednesday, September 18<sup>th<\/sup> and again on Wednesday from 8:00 pm until 6:00 am on Thursday, September 19<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Detours will be in place.\u00a0 Again, the use of alternate routes is highly encouraged.<\/p>\n<p>40<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0Avenue between Tieton\u00a0 Drive and Nob Hill Blvd. will be restricted to one lane each way beginning at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 17<sup>th<\/sup> until 6:00 am on Wednesday, September 18<sup>th<\/sup> and again on Wednesday beginning at 8:00 pm through 6:00 am on Thursday, September 19<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Walnut Avenue between 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street and 7<sup>th<\/sup> Street will be closed at night to all through traffic from 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 18<sup>th<\/sup> until 6:00 am on Thursday, September 19<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 \u00a0Detours will be in place.<\/p>\n<p>16<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue between Englewood Avenue and River Road will have lane restrictions in place beginning at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 17<sup>th<\/sup> until 6:00 am on Wednesday, September 18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0 while utility work is underway.<\/p>\n<p>Tieton Drive between 32<sup>nd<\/sup> Avenue and 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue will have lane restrictions at night for raising utilities Wednesday, September 18<sup>th<\/sup> through Thursday, September 19<sup>th<\/sup> between the hours of 8:00 pm to 6:00 am.<\/p>\n<p>The City is spending $5 million dollars this year completing what\u2019s known as a \u201cgrind and overlay\u201d project in order to recondition roadway sections in different parts of Yakima.\u00a0 A grind and overlay project involves removing old and deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt, which significantly improves the drivability and safety of the road surface.<\/p>\n<p>While the grind and overlay work is underway, traffic delays in the project areas will occur.\u00a0 Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.<\/p>\n<p>Access to homes and businesses in the project areas will be maintained as best as possible and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project areas if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>As always, the schedule for these types of projects is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>For additional information regarding this week\u2019s grind and overlay project activity, contact Senior Engineer Bob Desgrosellier at 575-6228.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">&#8211; end &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Grind-and-Overlay-Update-News-Release5.pdf\">Grind and Overlay Update &#8211; News Release<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Contact:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Senior Engineer Bob Desgrosellier \u2013 575-6228<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><b>Communications &amp; Public Affairs Director Randy Beehler \u2013 901-1142<\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An ongoing project to resurface several key sections of Yakima streets this summer and fall will impact traffic on sections of 16th Avenue, Walnut Street, 40th Avenue, and Summitview Avenue and Tieton Drive from September 16th through September 19th.
