{"id":1113,"date":"2013-09-20T15:14:59","date_gmt":"2013-09-20T22:14:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=1113"},"modified":"2013-09-20T15:14:59","modified_gmt":"2013-09-20T22:14:59","slug":"citywide-grind-overlay-project-continuing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/citywide-grind-overlay-project-continuing\/","title":{"rendered":"Citywide Grind and Overlay Project Continuing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Work on the City of Yakima\u2019s ongoing grind and overlay project will impact traffic from September 23<sup>rd<\/sup> through September 27<sup>th<\/sup> on 16<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue as well as roads in the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning on the evening of Monday, September 23<sup>rd<\/sup> and lasting through the morning of Friday, September 27<sup>th<\/sup>, significant activity along 40<sup>th<\/sup> \u00a0 Avenue from Nob Hill Boulevard to Summitview will make overnight traffic on that section of 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue challenging.\u00a0 Traffic revisions will be in place along 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue from 8:00 pm each evening through 6:00 am the following day while final paving is completed.\u00a0 Different lanes of 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue will be paved throughout the week.\u00a0 As paving progresses each evening, no eastbound or westbound traffic between Nob Hill and Summitview will be allowed to cross hot pavement on 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue.\u00a0 Drivers attempting to cross 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue between Nob Hill and Summitview will experience delays.\u00a0 Only local traffic will be allowed to travel northbound and southbound on 40<sup>th<\/sup> \u00a0 Avenue while the paving project is underway.\u00a0 Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes.<\/p>\n<p>The intersection of 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and Summitview Avenue will be completely closed beginning at 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 26<sup>th<\/sup> until 6:00 am on Friday, September 27<sup>th<\/sup> while the intersection is repaved. \u00a0Detours will be available, but drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes.<\/p>\n<p>Striping and utility work will result in lane restrictions on 16<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue between Englewood Avenue and River Road beginning at 8:00 pm on Monday, September 23<sup>rd<\/sup> until 6:00 am on Tuesday, September 24<sup>th<\/sup>, again on Tuesday at 8:00 pm until 6:00 am on Wednesday September 25<sup>th<\/sup>, and finally from Wednesday at 8:00 pm until Thursday, September 26<sup>th<\/sup> at \u00a0\u00a0\u00a06:00 am.<\/p>\n<p>Access to homes and businesses in the project areas will be maintained as best as possible and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project areas if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>As always, the schedule for these types of projects is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>The City has been working on the $5 million grind and overlay project throughout the summer in order to recondition roadway sections in different parts of Yakima.\u00a0 A grind and overlay project involves removing old and deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt, which significantly improves the drivability and safety of the road surface.\u00a0 Most of the work on the grind and overlay project is being conducted overnight to minimize impacts to traffic.<\/p>\n<p>For additional information regarding this week\u2019s grind and overlay project activity, contact Senior Engineer Bob Desgrosellier at 575-6228.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">&#8211; end &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Grind-and-Overlay-Update-News-Release6.pdf\">Grind and Overlay Update &#8211; News Release<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Contact:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Senior Engineer Bob Desgrosellier \u2013 575-6228<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Communications &amp; Public Affairs Director Randy Beehler \u2013 901-1142<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Work on the City of Yakima\u2019s ongoing grind and overlay project will impact traffic from September 23rd through September 27th on 16th Avenue and 40th Avenue as well as roads in the surrounding areas.
