{"id":1121,"date":"2013-09-25T10:41:59","date_gmt":"2013-09-25T17:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=1121"},"modified":"2013-09-25T10:41:59","modified_gmt":"2013-09-25T17:41:59","slug":"second-yakima-fall-clean-day-set-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/second-yakima-fall-clean-day-set-saturday\/","title":{"rendered":"Second Yakima Fall Clean Up Day Set For Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second in a series of fall community clean up events sponsored by the City of Yakima is scheduled for Saturday, September 28<sup>th<\/sup> and will target District 2, which is primarily south of Tieton Drive between 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street.\u00a0 A free drop off site will be open from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the old Wards Plaza near the intersection of South. 24<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Avenue and West Nob Hill Boulevard.\u00a0 Anyone bringing trash to the drop off site is urged to separate household refuse from yard debris.\u00a0 Recycling bins will also be available to handle scrap metal, paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, and milk jugs.\u00a0 The drop off site will not accept hazardous materials such as paint and chemicals, but can take old tires for disposal.<\/p>\n<p>Goodwill Industries will also have a truck at the drop off site to accept old electronic equipment for recycling and donations of reusable items. Habitat for Humanity will also be accepting gently used furniture, home accessories and building materials.<\/p>\n<p>During the first fall clean up day on Saturday, September 14<sup>th<\/sup>, the City of Yakima Refuse Division collected 600 pounds of metal, nearly four tons of garbage and yard debris, and 171 old tires.\u00a0 That event primarily targeted the western portion of the city.<\/p>\n<p>Like the spring clean ups, the fall events rotate between each of Yakima\u2019s four City Council districts.\u00a0 Additional community clean up days this fall include Saturday, October 12<sup>th<\/sup> in District 3 (primarily the northeast and southeast sections of the city), and Saturday, November 2<sup>nd<\/sup> in District 4 (primarily between 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street).<\/p>\n<p>Results from both the 2012 and 2013 Yakima Citizen Surveys clearly revealed an expectation that the City of Yakima should be more proactively involved in improving the overall appearance of the community.\u00a0 As part of its multi-pronged approach to meeting that expectation, the City conducted four clean up events this spring that proved to be very popular with residents.
