{"id":11608,"date":"2022-03-02T10:34:30","date_gmt":"2022-03-02T18:34:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=11608"},"modified":"2022-03-02T10:34:31","modified_gmt":"2022-03-02T18:34:31","slug":"clean-city-program-reports-progress-in-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/clean-city-program-reports-progress-in-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Clean City Program Reports Progress in 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Responding to more than 3,000 graffiti incidents, removing more than 1,800 shopping carts and clearing more than 180 tons of garbage were some of the City of Yakima Clean City Program activities in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yakima City Council received reports on the program in the agenda packet for its meeting yesterday, March 1<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIncidents of graffiti were sharply reduced in 2021 by 52.3 percent in comparison to 2020,\u201d said Public Works Director Scott Schafer. \u201cThis is directly attributed to the efforts of community members, residents and staff placing an emphasis on the rapid removal of graffiti.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, the Clean City Program nearly doubled the amount of garbage removed in 2021. Its main objectives are: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Address visual blight (trash, graffiti, dangerous building, abandoned vehicles, etc.)<\/li><li>Address unscheduled collection of waste and litter from the City\u2019s public areas\/thoroughfares<\/li><li>Expedite the clean-up of such illegal dumps<\/li><li>Clean up homeless encampments<\/li><li>Support Yakima Police Department officers in unlawful camping enforcement<\/li><li>Provide coordination with neighborhoods for annual clean-up events<\/li><li>Create educational components<\/li><li>Engage with community partners and volunteers<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Clean City, under the direction of the City\u2019s Public Works Division, coordinates the efforts of several City departments and community partners.
