{"id":11634,"date":"2022-03-07T09:42:36","date_gmt":"2022-03-07T17:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=11634"},"modified":"2022-03-07T09:45:04","modified_gmt":"2022-03-07T17:45:04","slug":"grants-to-fund-playground-teen-programs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/grants-to-fund-playground-teen-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Grants to Fund Playground, Teen Programs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Two grants totaling over $130,000 will fund two Yakima Parks and Recreation programs this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During its regular meeting last Tuesday, March 1<sup>st<\/sup>, the Yakima City Council approved two \u201cSummer Experiences &amp; Enrichment for Kids\u201d (SEEK) grants provided by the state\u2019s Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$120,083 to enhance City of Yakima summer playground programs at Kissel Park and Miller Park. The grant will provide more staff to allow for more participants while reducing program fees.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$15,042 for the Washington Fruit Community Center (WFCC) Teen Zone. The free program will be for ages 12-16.&nbsp; From June 24<sup>th<\/sup> to August 12<sup>th<\/sup> Teen Zone will be offered one night each week from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. It will also feature three full day field trips. Teen Zone activities will range from video games and movie nights to pickleball and soccer.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/yakima.novusagenda.com\/agendapublic\/CoverSheet.aspx?ItemID=9226&amp;MeetingID=987\">Coversheet (novusagenda.com)<\/a> for documents presented to the City Council last Tuesday related to the SEEK grants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SEEK program\u2019s purpose is to increase access to quality, outdoor summer programming for youth and communities who have historically been underserved and who have been most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
