{"id":11760,"date":"2022-04-19T14:52:24","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T21:52:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=11760"},"modified":"2022-04-19T14:52:25","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T21:52:25","slug":"yakima-valley-special-investigations-unit-news-release-yvsiu-detectives-investigating-officer-involved-shooting-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/yakima-valley-special-investigations-unit-news-release-yvsiu-detectives-investigating-officer-involved-shooting-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"YAKIMA VALLEY SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT News Release &#8211; YVSIU Detectives Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting Incident"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Yakima WA \u2013<\/strong> The Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit (YVSIU) is investigating an Officer involved Shooting incident that occurred in the City of Yakima, just before 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 16, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yakima Police Officers located a subject who was wanted for felony assault charges, walking in the 800 block of N 20<sup>th<\/sup> Ave.&nbsp; The subject fled Police and a foot pursuit ensued to the 1800 block of Jerome Ave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the foot pursuit, the subject displayed a handgun, and pointed it at the Yakima Officers.&nbsp; The police officers engaged the armed suspect and discharged their duty weapons.&nbsp; Immediately following the incident, Officer rendered lifesaving first aid efforts and summons an ambulance.&nbsp; The suspect was transported to Yakima Memorial Hospital and then to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two involved officers are employed by Yakima Police Department.&nbsp; No Officers were injured during the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The investigation is being conducted by the Yakima Valley Special Investigative Unit (YVSIU), a team of supervisors, investigators, crime scene investigators and evidence technicians from various Yakima County law enforcement agencies and Washington State Patrol. &nbsp;YVSIU responds to and provides independent investigations of police use of force incidents. &nbsp;The team includes civilian community members who observe the criminal investigation and related processes, per the Law Enforcement Training and Community Safety Act (LETSCA). &nbsp;When the YVSIU investigation is complete, the results will be forwarded to the Yakima County Prosecutors Office for review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update: 04\/19\/22 The identity of the suspect involved in the incident is identified as, Jose Trinidad Dealba DOB 10\/08\/94. He is currently in custody on multiple felony warrants to include; 3 counts of First-Degree Assault, First Degree Possession of a Firearm, Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Stolen Firearm, which occurred on 04\/16\/22.
