(Yakima, WA ) \u2013 The Downtown Yakima Farmers Market (DYFM) will kick off its 6th<\/sup> season at 9 a.m.- 1 p.m., May 14 in the new Rotary Marketplace located at 15 W. Yakima Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the 24th<\/sup> year a farmers\u2019 market has been in operation downtown,\u201d informed DYFM Manager, Yvette Lippert.  \u201cA farmers\u2019 market was originally started in 1998 by Joe Mann and a combination of community members and farmers who saw the importance of a market early on. It\u2019s been a humbling experience to continue that tradition the last six years and thrilled to see the community come together in support of the new marketplace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DYFM operates Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 14 through October 22. The 2023 season is presented by Solarity Credit Union and sponsored by Heritage Bank, Tree Top, Stokes Lawrence, Stephan Media Group and Essencia Bakery. Banner Bank proudly sponsors the SNAP Market Match program providing added value to those residents using DSHS\u2019 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP for short.  DYFM is also an authorized farmers market for those who receive Women Infants & Children (WIC) and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) funds provided June thru October by DSHS and other authorized healthcare providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For young people or those young at heart, DYFM will have special Kids Day activities the last Sunday of each month and last day of market with Halloween custome contests and more. In addition, DYFM will feature live music weekly and celebrate the National Farmers Market week (August 6-12, 2023) on August 6. To encourage more to people to pay attention to climate issues, DYFM will also celebrate Drive Electric Day on October 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Downtown Yakima Farmers\u2019 Market (DYFM) is a community farmers market in the heart of downtown Yakima, Washington. DYFM is administered by the Downtown Association of Yakima<\/a>. The Market provides an outlet for Washington State\u2019s farmers, specialty food producers, artisan and craft makers, food preparers, and entertainers to sell directly to the consumer. The Market encourages pedestrian activity in the urban core, provides improved access to agricultural education and fresh produce, and creates a festive weekly gathering place during the agriculture growing season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DYFM is proud member of the Washington State Farmers Market association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
