{"id":14347,"date":"2024-05-20T09:52:45","date_gmt":"2024-05-20T16:52:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=14347"},"modified":"2024-05-20T09:52:46","modified_gmt":"2024-05-20T16:52:46","slug":"yakima-awarded-major-grant-to-extend-water-wastewater-service-to-unserved-areas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/yakima-awarded-major-grant-to-extend-water-wastewater-service-to-unserved-areas\/","title":{"rendered":"Yakima Awarded Major Grant to Extend Water-Wastewater Service to Unserved Areas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The City of Yakima has been awarded a federal grant of more than $4.9 million to extend domestic water and wastewater services to currently unserved areas of the community.&nbsp; The grant will cover the cost of two of three phases of a project that will bring water and wastewater services to areas populated by mostly low-income, minority residents who currently rely on wells and septic systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $4,949,298 grant comes from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation\u2019s WaterSMART Drought Response Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis funding will help the City of Yakima provide a reliable source of drinking water for hundreds of residents who currently rely on shallow private wells that are vulnerable to drought and contamination,\u201d said U.S. Senator Patty Murray. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting to see the investments we\u2019ve made through the Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the appropriations bills I write as Chair reaching every corner of the country and every community in Washington state.
