{"id":14478,"date":"2024-06-28T17:01:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-29T00:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=14478"},"modified":"2024-06-28T17:01:01","modified_gmt":"2024-06-29T00:01:01","slug":"shawn-boyle-named-interim-yakima-police-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/shawn-boyle-named-interim-yakima-police-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"Shawn Boyle Named Interim Yakima Police Chief"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yakima Police Captain Shawn Boyle has been selected to serve as interim Yakima police chief while a search is conducted for a replacement for Matt Murray, who served as Yakima police chief from 2019 until recently announcing his retirement from the department.&nbsp; Murray\u2019s tenure as chief ends on June 30<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interim Yakima City Manager Dave Zabell, who selected Boyle to serve as interim chief, said Boyle will assume his new duties on July 1<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCaptain Boyle has an outstanding record as a law enforcement professional and has continually demonstrated his leadership abilities throughout his career,\u201d said Zabell.&nbsp; \u201cI am confident he will apply his significant experience to his role as interim chief.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boyle began his law enforcement career as a military police officer in the U.S. Army in 1991.&nbsp; He joined the Yakima Police Department as a corrections officer in 1996.&nbsp; In 1997, Boyle was promoted to police officer.&nbsp; He was again promoted in 2007 to the position of sergeant.&nbsp; In 2015, Boyle was promoted to lieutenant.&nbsp; Boyle was promoted to captain in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boyle has been a member, assistant team leader, team leader, and team commander of the regional SWAT tactical team.&nbsp; He also has served as a law enforcement liaison to the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission.&nbsp; Boyle has led numerous training programs for law enforcement professionals throughout his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boyle received a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University.&nbsp; He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has professional and supervisory training through the Northwest Command College and the FBI-LEEDA Leadership Trilogy program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his role as YPD captain, Boyle has been the commander of the department\u2019s Criminal Investigations Division and the operations chief of the Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div data-wp-interactive=\"core\/file\" class=\"wp-block-file\"><object data-wp-bind--hidden=\"!state.hasPdfPreview\" hidden class=\"wp-block-file__embed\" data=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Shawn-Boyle-Named-Interim-Yakima-Police-Chief-News-Release.pdf\" type=\"application\/pdf\" style=\"width:100%;height:600px\" aria-label=\"Embed of Shawn-Boyle-Named-Interim-Yakima-Police-Chief-News-Release.\"><\/object><a id=\"wp-block-file--media-dea2c970-161a-46e5-ab37-e4936003d28b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Shawn-Boyle-Named-Interim-Yakima-Police-Chief-News-Release.pdf\">Shawn-Boyle-Named-Interim-Yakima-Police-Chief-News-Release<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Shawn-Boyle-Named-Interim-Yakima-Police-Chief-News-Release.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button wp-element-button\" download aria-describedby=\"wp-block-file--media-dea2c970-161a-46e5-ab37-e4936003d28b\">Download<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a id=\"wp-block-file--media-80fbe13e-3690-4de5-97f2-e759e34d337d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Shawn-Boyle-Picture.png\">Shawn-Boyle-Picture<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Shawn-Boyle-Picture.png\" class=\"wp-block-file__button wp-element-button\" download aria-describedby=\"wp-block-file--media-80fbe13e-3690-4de5-97f2-e759e34d337d\">Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yakima Police Captain Shawn Boyle has been selected to serve as interim Yakima police chief while a search is conducted for a replacement for Matt Murray, who served as Yakima police chief from 2019 until recently announcing his retirement from the department.&nbsp; Murray\u2019s tenure as chief ends on June 30th.
