{"id":14543,"date":"2024-07-16T19:08:19","date_gmt":"2024-07-17T02:08:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=14543"},"modified":"2024-07-16T19:08:19","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T02:08:19","slug":"vicki-baker-announced-as-next-yakima-city-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/vicki-baker-announced-as-next-yakima-city-manager\/","title":{"rendered":"Vicki Baker Announced as Next Yakima City Manager"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>During its regular meeting tonight, the Yakima City Council announced Vicki Baker will be the next Yakima city manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baker was one of three finalists for the city manager job. &nbsp;The other finalists were Franklin County, Washington County Administrator Mike Gonzalez and Wellton, Arizona Town Manager Richard Marsh, Jr.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The finalists were interviewed by the Council on July 1<sup>st<\/sup>.&nbsp; At its July 2<sup>nd<\/sup> regular meeting, the Council directed City staff to complete background checks and enter into negotiations with Baker.&nbsp; That process has been ongoing since then and was concluded this evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Council is excited to welcome Vicki Baker as the next Yakima city manager,\u201d said Mayor Patricia Byers.\u00a0 \u201cWe are confident Vicki is the right person for the job.\u00a0 She knows the Yakima community.\u00a0 She has a broad range of professional experience that makes her a good fit as city manager,\u201d said Byers.\u00a0 \u201cShe\u2019s enthusiastic to get started and so is the Council.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baker first day on the job as Yakima city manager is scheduled to be August 8<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baker became the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments deputy director in April 2021.&nbsp; Before that, Baker served as a Yakima County commissioner from January 2020 through November 2020.&nbsp; From 2006 to 2009, Baker operated Vicki Baker Public Relations in Yakima.&nbsp; Since 1999, Baker has owned and operated a Grocery Outlet store in Yakima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January of this year, the City Council terminated the contract of Bob Harrison, who had served as Yakima city manager since September 2020.\u00a0 The City Council appointed Dave Zabell as interim city manager in January of 2024. \u00a0He will continue to serve until Baker begins her tenure. \u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yakima operates under the council-manager form of municipal government.\u00a0 In the council-manager form, the Council serves as the board of directors of the municipal corporation and is responsible for setting overall City policy.\u00a0 The city manager, the only employee of the Council, serves as CEO of the municipal corporation, is responsible for day-to-day operations of the City, and oversees all City departments, divisions, and offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div data-wp-interactive=\"core\/file\" class=\"wp-block-file\"><object data-wp-bind--hidden=\"!state.hasPdfPreview\" hidden class=\"wp-block-file__embed\" data=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Vicki-Baker-Announced-as-Next-Yakima-City-Manager-News-Release.pdf\" type=\"application\/pdf\" style=\"width:100%;height:600px\" aria-label=\"Embed of Vicki Baker Announced as Next Yakima City Manager - News Release.\"><\/object><a id=\"wp-block-file--media-f9c3161c-4538-47f8-b840-1482c43c04a9\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Vicki-Baker-Announced-as-Next-Yakima-City-Manager-News-Release.pdf\">Vicki Baker Announced as Next Yakima City Manager &#8211; News Release<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Vicki-Baker-Announced-as-Next-Yakima-City-Manager-News-Release.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button wp-element-button\" download aria-describedby=\"wp-block-file--media-f9c3161c-4538-47f8-b840-1482c43c04a9\">Download<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Vicki-Baker-Photo-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"283\" height=\"311\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Vicki-Baker-Photo-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14545\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Vicki-Baker-Photo-1.jpg 283w, https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Vicki-Baker-Photo-1-273x300.jpg 273w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 283px) 100vw, 283px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During its regular meeting tonight, the Yakima City Council announced Vicki Baker will be the next Yakima city manager.
