The Yakima Arts Commission, an advisory group appointed by the Yakima City Council, is inviting Central Washington artists to help invigorate windows of empty downtown storefronts by displaying their work as part of the, \u201cWindows Alive\u201d program<\/p>\n
Artists living in Central Washington are being encouraged to submit an application and examples of their work on a compact disc (CD) by the June 23rd<\/sup> Deadline<\/strong>.\u00a0 A panel chosen by the Yakima Arts Commission will review submissions from artists and select works that will be displayed in storefront windows.\u00a0 Artists who are chosen to show their work in the windows, which are primarily located along Yakima Avenue, will be paid $250.<\/p>\n Artists can download an application at www.windowsalive.com<\/a>. Questions about the project can be answered by calling Arts Commission Member Cheryl Hahn at 480-2547 or by e-mail at hahnartwork1@charter.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWindows Alive\u201d is the brainchild of the Yakima Arts Commission and is based on similar projects that have proven successful in other cities.<\/p>\n \u201cEmpty storefront windows don\u2019t convey a positive image,\u201d said Hahn.\u00a0 \u201cBy filling them with art, we will create a more engaging and vibrant environment downtown while also providing local artists with a wonderful opportunity to showcase their work.\u201d<\/p>\n After the first displays complete their four-month run, they will be replaced with a new set of displays that will be up for the next four months.\u00a0 This the second year for the popular program sponsored by the Yakima Arts Commission.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2019Windows Alive\u2019 is a great way to celebrate the community and to add excitement and energy to Downtown Yakima,\u201d said Hahn.\u00a0 \u201cWe are fortunate to have a lot of very gifted artists in Central Washington and \u2018Windows Alive\u2019 will provide them with another stage they can use to share their talents.\u201d<\/p>\n
