{"id":15772,"date":"2025-10-21T10:25:52","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T17:25:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=15772"},"modified":"2025-10-21T10:51:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T17:51:26","slug":"volunteer-opportunities-on-city-boards-committees-and-commissions-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/volunteer-opportunities-on-city-boards-committees-and-commissions-21\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer Opportunities on City Boards, Committees and Commissions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Yakima City Council is seeking volunteers interested in serving on City of Yakima boards, committees, and commissions.\u00a0The following boards have vacancies or upcoming term expirations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Arts Commission <\/strong>has two agency representative positions (Valley Museum and Seasons), one working artist position and one community representative position vacant.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bicycle &amp; Pedestrian Advisory Committee <\/strong>has one vacancy and two terms expiring in December 2025.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lodging Tax Advisory Committee <\/strong>will have three terms ending in December 2025.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tree City USA Board <\/strong>has one vacancy (specific to City Arborist position).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More about the volunteer opportunities:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Members of the <strong>Arts Commission<\/strong> serve 3-year terms. The <em>agency representative <\/em>represents local arts organizations established by Council. The <em>working artist <\/em>position shall be a person who has had his or her works of art exhibited in professional gallery spaces and\/or has had their work included in professionally juried exhibitions or permanent collections. The <em>community member<\/em> position shall be from diverse backgrounds and have no vested interest in any particular art or cultural endeavor. At least three community reps shall be city residents.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee<\/strong> has seven members. Members serve a four-year term. One member may be a resident of Yakima County if they also either own property within the City of Yakima or own a business within the City of Yakima.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Lodging Tax Advisory Committee<\/strong> is comprised of nine members who serve two-year terms. One of the upcoming vacancies must be filled with a representative of a business required to collect the lodging tax. Two of the upcoming vacancies are to be filled by a person involved in activities authorized to be funded by the revenue received from the lodging tax.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Tree City USA Board<\/strong> consists of five members. The current vacancy is specific to the City Arborist position. The board seeks individuals with experience related to trees and other plantings, specifically those with training as arborists.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some commissions require a supplemental application or resume to be submitted. Applications will be reviewed by the Council Nominating Committee.
