{"id":15840,"date":"2025-11-21T08:54:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T16:54:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=15840"},"modified":"2025-11-21T09:14:23","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T17:14:23","slug":"community-christmas-tree-arrives-november-25th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/community-christmas-tree-arrives-november-25th\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Christmas Tree Arrives November 25th"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Preparations are under way for the arrival of Yakima&#8217;s Community Christmas Tree on Tuesday, November 25<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Downtown Association of Yakima (DAY) crew in partnership with the City of Yakima Public Works Division would like to thank our partners Russell Crane and Carrell Crane &amp; Heavy Hauling, Inc. for generously donating their services to our community,\u201d said DAY Executive Director Curt Wilson. \u201cWe could not do this without these wonderful partners who will remove and secure a tree provided by Downtown Yakima resident Saul Parraga.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It is anticipated the tree will be transported between 10:30 am and 11:30 am on Tuesday<\/strong> and be placed in the ground at Millennium Plaza in front of the Capital Theater at approximately 12:30 pm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transporting the tree may impact traffic from North 6<sup>th<\/sup> Street to Yakima Avenue heading west to 3rd Street for about 15 to 30 minutes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Third Street between Yakima Avenue and Chestnut Avenue will be temporarily closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accommodate the tree installation. Parking spaces on 3rd Street adjacent to Millennium Plaza will also be closed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plans for transporting the tree to Downtown Yakima are subject to change dependent on weather and equipment. <strong>The official tree lighting ceremony will be Sunday, December 7<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><strong>,<\/strong> at the conclusion of Downtown Yakima&#8217;s annual Holiday Lighted Parade.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DAY will hang lights on trees in the Plaza area on Dec. 2nd, prior to the parade and lighting ceremony. Please contact the DAY office at 509-571-1328 if you would like to volunteer to help with this effort.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tree to be installed at Millennium Plaza was selected from several local entries. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThank you to our community members who generously offered a tree. The many options to choose from ensure we can carry this tradition forward.
