{"id":16059,"date":"2026-04-03T13:53:31","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T20:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=16059"},"modified":"2026-04-03T13:53:33","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T20:53:33","slug":"new-human-resources-director-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/new-human-resources-director-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"New Human Resources Director Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yakima City Manager Vicki Baker has announced Lisa Garcia will be the City&#8217;s new human resources director.&nbsp; Garcia replaces Connie Mendoza, who retired earlier this year<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Garcia\u2019s first day as City of Yakima human resources director will be Monday, April 6<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Garcia has more than 25 years of progressive human resources leadership experience spanning healthcare, higher education, global manufacturing, and agribusiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Lisa is a well-known and highly respected leader in human resources here in our area and throughout Washington State,&#8221; said Baker.&nbsp; \u201cShe has a wealth of experience and expertise and broad familiarity with people management.&nbsp; The City is fortunate to be able to benefit from Lisa\u2019s decades-long career in human resources and her ongoing commitment to the Yakima Valley,\u201d said Baker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Garcia was born and raised in the Yakima Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Garcia most recently served as chief people officer for Yakima Chief Hops.&nbsp; She worked for Yakima Chief Hops for 13 years, progressively advancing in the company\u2019s human resources structure.&nbsp; From 2001 to 2012, Garcia was the director of human resources for Sunnyside Community Hospital (now Astria).&nbsp; She served as the human resources director for Heritage University before that.&nbsp; Her professional career started as the human resources manager for Rabanco\/Allied Waste (now Republic Services).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Garcia earned a Bachelor of Science\/Business Administration degree from Central Washington University and holds a Master of Health Administration degree from the University of Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Garcia is a member of the board of directors for the Yakama Nation Boys &amp; Girls Club and currently leads the club\u2019s finance, safety, and fundraising chair efforts.\u00a0 She also is a member of the Yakima Chapter of Women in Manufacturing.\u00a0 Additionally, Garcia is a guest lecturer at Heritage University and serves as a youth mentor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div data-wp-interactive=\"core\/file\" class=\"wp-block-file\"><object data-wp-bind--hidden=\"!state.hasPdfPreview\" hidden class=\"wp-block-file__embed\" data=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/New-City-of-Yakima-Human-Resources-Director-News-Release.pdf\" type=\"application\/pdf\" style=\"width:100%;height:600px\" aria-label=\"Embed of New City of Yakima Human Resources Director - News Release.\"><\/object><a id=\"wp-block-file--media-f1f2419e-7e99-4b49-9001-aae152bc4ea0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/New-City-of-Yakima-Human-Resources-Director-News-Release.pdf\">New City of Yakima Human Resources Director &#8211; News Release<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/New-City-of-Yakima-Human-Resources-Director-News-Release.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button wp-element-button\" download aria-describedby=\"wp-block-file--media-f1f2419e-7e99-4b49-9001-aae152bc4ea0\">Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yakima City Manager Vicki Baker has announced Lisa Garcia will be the City&#8217;s new human resources director.&nbsp; Garcia replaces Connie Mendoza, who retired earlier this year Garcia\u2019s first day as City of Yakima human resources director will be Monday, April 6th.
