{"id":16067,"date":"2026-04-08T07:44:44","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T14:44:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=16067"},"modified":"2026-04-08T08:11:54","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T15:11:54","slug":"volunteer-opportunities-on-city-boards-committees-and-commissions-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/volunteer-opportunities-on-city-boards-committees-and-commissions-23\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer Opportunities on\u00a0City Boards, Committees\u00a0and Commissions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yakima City Council seek volunteers interested in serving on&nbsp;the following City of Yakima boards, committees, and commissions:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Arts Commission&nbsp;<\/strong>has two agency representative&nbsp;positions&nbsp;vacant&nbsp;(Valley Museum&nbsp;and Seasons).&nbsp;Additionally, one agency rep&nbsp;position&nbsp;(Symphony Orchestra),&nbsp;one dramatic arts position, one working artist position, and two&nbsp;community&nbsp;rep&nbsp;positions&nbsp;expire June 30, 2026.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bicycle and Pedestrian&nbsp;Advisory Committee&nbsp;<\/strong>has&nbsp;one vacancy.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Henry Beauchamp Community Center&nbsp;<\/strong>has&nbsp;two&nbsp;positions&nbsp;expiring June 30, 2026.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Parks and Recreation&nbsp;Commission<\/strong>&nbsp;has&nbsp;one&nbsp;youth&nbsp;position expiring June 30, 2026.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Planning Commission&nbsp;<\/strong>has four positions expiring June 30, 2026.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Public Facilities District Board<\/strong>&nbsp;has one&nbsp;position expiring June 30, 2026.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tree&nbsp;City USA Board&nbsp;<\/strong>has one vacancy (specific to City Arborist).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone interested in applying for&nbsp;a position&nbsp;can&nbsp;submit&nbsp;their application to the City Clerk\u2019s Office no later than the end of business day on&nbsp;<strong>May 1, 2026<\/strong>.&nbsp;Some commissions require a supplemental application or resume to be&nbsp;submitted.&nbsp;Additional&nbsp;information on the duties and responsibilities of each committee&nbsp;and the application form&nbsp;can be found&nbsp;online at:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/council\/boards-commissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.yakimawa.gov\/council\/boards-commissions\/<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications will be reviewed by the Council Nominating Committee.&nbsp;It&nbsp;is the responsibility of the&nbsp;Yakima&nbsp;City Council to appoint people to serve on the governing bodies of those organizations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More about the&nbsp;volunteer&nbsp;opportunities:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Members of the&nbsp;<strong>Arts Commission<\/strong>&nbsp;serve&nbsp;3-year terms.&nbsp;The&nbsp;<em>agency representative&nbsp;<\/em>represents&nbsp;local arts organizations&nbsp;established&nbsp;by Council. The&nbsp;<em>working artist&nbsp;<\/em>position shall be a person who has had his or her works of art&nbsp;exhibited&nbsp;in professional gallery spaces and\/or has had their work included in professionally juried exhibitions or permanent collections.&nbsp;The&nbsp;<em>community member<\/em>&nbsp;position&nbsp;shall be from diverse backgrounds and have no&nbsp;vested interest&nbsp;in any&nbsp;particular art&nbsp;or cultural endeavor.&nbsp;At least three community reps shall be city residents.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee<\/strong>&nbsp;has&nbsp;seven members. Members serve a four-year term, and one member may be a resident of Yakima County if they also either own property within the City of Yakima or own a business within the City of Yakima.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are seven members on&nbsp;the&nbsp;<strong>Henry Beauchamp Community Center Advisory Board<\/strong>, all of whom serve&nbsp;4-year terms and must live within Yakima city limits. This board holds quarterly meetings and makes recommendations to the center operator and the City&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;management policies, operations, maintenance, and capital improvement needs.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Members of the&nbsp;<strong>Parks and Recreation Commission<\/strong>&nbsp;must live within Yakima city limits. Non-youth members serve four-year terms. Youth members must be between 16-22 years of age at the time of appointment&nbsp;in order to&nbsp;be eligible to serve a 2-year term.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Member of the&nbsp;<strong>Planning Commission<\/strong>&nbsp;serve 4-year terms and must&nbsp;be a city resident&nbsp;or own a business or real property&nbsp;that is&nbsp;located&nbsp;within&nbsp;the Yakima&nbsp;city limits. The Planning Commission meets twice monthly and works on long-range planning issues within city limits.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Members of the&nbsp;<strong>Public Facilities District Board<\/strong>&nbsp;serve&nbsp;four-year&nbsp;terms. Applicants shall not be members of the legislative authority of the cities of Selah, Union Gap, or Yakima while serving on the board and must be bondable.&nbsp;Members shall have knowledge and\/or experience in tourism, convention, and\/or business.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>Tree City USA Board<\/strong>&nbsp;consists of five members.
