{"id":16130,"date":"2026-05-21T11:23:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T18:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=16130"},"modified":"2026-05-21T11:23:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T18:23:20","slug":"lifeguard-training-offered-by-yakima-parks-recreation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/lifeguard-training-offered-by-yakima-parks-recreation\/","title":{"rendered":"Lifeguard Training Offered by Yakima Parks &amp; Recreation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yakima Parks &amp; Recreation is providing two opportunities this spring for anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard to receive training through the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Training takes place over three days \u2013 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, at Lions Pool (509 West Pine Street)&nbsp; The first training this year will be on May 29<sup>th<\/sup>, 30<sup>th<\/sup>, and 31<sup>st<\/sup>.&nbsp; The second training will be on June 5<sup>th<\/sup>, 6<sup>th<\/sup>, and 7<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friday training sessions will be from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.&nbsp; Saturday on Sunday training sessions will be from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cost of the training for residents of Yakima is $130.&nbsp; The cost for non-Yakima residents is $140.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To sign up for the course, call Lions Pool at 509-575-6046.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lifeguard trainees must be at least 15 years old on or before the last day of the course, be able to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes using only the legs, and complete a timed, multi-skill event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those who successfully complete the course will receive a Lifeguard\/First Aid\/CPR\/AED certification, which will be valid for two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div data-wp-interactive=\"core\/file\" class=\"wp-block-file\"><object data-wp-bind--hidden=\"!state.hasPdfPreview\" hidden class=\"wp-block-file__embed\" data=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Lifeguard-Training-News-Release.pdf\" type=\"application\/pdf\" style=\"width:100%;height:600px\" aria-label=\"Embed of Lifeguard Training - News Release.\"><\/object><a id=\"wp-block-file--media-c976948f-edb1-415a-a702-4d1d98f8e44d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Lifeguard-Training-News-Release.pdf\">Lifeguard Training &#8211; News Release<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Lifeguard-Training-News-Release.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button wp-element-button\" download aria-describedby=\"wp-block-file--media-c976948f-edb1-415a-a702-4d1d98f8e44d\">Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yakima Parks &amp; Recreation is providing two opportunities this spring for anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard to receive training through the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course.
