{"id":16202,"date":"2026-07-14T12:27:37","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T19:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=16202"},"modified":"2026-07-14T12:27:38","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T19:27:38","slug":"volunteer-opportunities-on-city-boards-committees-and-commissions-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/volunteer-opportunities-on-city-boards-committees-and-commissions-24\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer Opportunities on City Boards, Committees and Commissions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Yakima City Council is seeking volunteers interested in serving on City of Yakima boards, committees, and commissions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Arts Commission has two agency representative positions vacant (Yakima Valley Museum and Seasons), one working artist position vacant and three community member positions vacant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee has one vacancy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Henry Beauchamp Community Center has one vacancy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lodging Tax Advisory Committee has one vacancy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parks and Recreation Commission has one youth position vacant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Planning Commission has one vacancy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tree City USA Board has one vacancy (specific to City arborist).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone interested in applying for a position can submit their application to the City Clerk\u2019s Office. <em>Applications are accepted on a continuous basis until vacancies are filled.<\/em> Some commissions require a supplemental application or resume to be submitted. Additional information on the duties and responsibilities of each committee and the application form can be found online at: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/council\/boards-commissions\/\">www.yakimawa.gov\/council\/boards-commissions\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications will be reviewed by the Council Nominating Committee. It is the responsibility of the Yakima City Council to appoint people to serve on the governing bodies of those organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More about the volunteer opportunities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Members of the Arts Commission serve 3-year terms. The <em>agency representative <\/em>represents local arts organizations established by Council. The <em>working artist <\/em>position shall be a person who has had his or her works of art exhibited in professional gallery spaces and\/or has had their work included in professionally juried exhibitions or permanent collections. The <em>community member<\/em> position shall be from diverse backgrounds and have no vested interest in any particular art or cultural endeavor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee has seven members. Members serve a four-year term, and one member may be a resident of Yakima County if they also either own property within the City of Yakima or own a business within the City of Yakima.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are seven members on the <strong>Henry Beauchamp Community Center Advisory Board<\/strong>, all of whom serve 4-year terms and must live within Yakima city limits. This board holds quarterly meetings and makes recommendations to the center operator and the City regarding management policies, operations, maintenance, and capital improvement needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee is comprised of nine members who serve two-year terms. Four members must represent a business required to collect the lodging tax. And four members are to be filled by a person involved in activities authorized to be funded by the lodging tax revenue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Members of the Parks and Recreation Commission must live within Yakima city limits. Non-youth members serve four-year terms. Youth members must be between 16-22 years of age at the time of appointment in order to be eligible to serve a 2-year term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Member of the Planning Commission serve 4-year terms and must be a city resident or own a business or real property that is located within the Yakima city limits. The Planning Commission meets twice monthly and works on long-range planning issues within city limits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Tree City USA Board consists of five members.
