{"id":1762,"date":"2014-05-23T14:29:23","date_gmt":"2014-05-23T21:29:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=1762"},"modified":"2014-05-23T14:29:23","modified_gmt":"2014-05-23T21:29:23","slug":"citywide-road-resurfacing-project-update-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/citywide-road-resurfacing-project-update-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Citywide Road Resurfacing Project Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A citywide street repaving project that began earlier this month and will continue until this fall will affect traffic in several areas of Yakima from May 26<sup>th<\/sup> through May 30<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>From Tuesday, May 27<sup>th<\/sup> through Friday, May 30<sup>th<\/sup>, periodic lane closures will occur each day from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm on 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue between Fruitvale Boulevard and Summitview Avenue, on Lincoln Avenue between 24<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and 32<sup>nd<\/sup> Avenue, on Nob Hill Boulevard between 32<sup>nd<\/sup> Avenue and 48<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue, on 16<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue between Yakima Avenue and Englewood Avenue, on Tieton Drive between 44<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and 48<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue, and on Yakima Avenue between 12<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and 16<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Portions of Nob Hill between 32<sup>nd<\/sup> and 48<sup>th<\/sup> will be completely closed to traffic overnight from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am from Tuesday, May 27<sup>th<\/sup> through Thursday, May 29<sup>th<\/sup>. Portions of 16<sup>th<\/sup> between Yakima Avenue and Englewood, as well as portions of Tieton between 44<sup>th<\/sup> and 48<sup>th<\/sup>, will be closed to traffic overnight on Tuesday, May 27<sup>th<\/sup>. And, portions of Yakima Avenue between 12<sup>th<\/sup> and 16<sup>th<\/sup> won\u2019t be open overnight on Thursday, May 29<sup>th<\/sup>. Detour routes will be in place so drivers can go around the closed portions of those streets.<\/p>\n<p>A map showing the sections of roads that will be repaved during the project is posted on the City\u2019s website at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/apps\/streets\/resurfacing\/\">https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/apps\/streets\/resurfacing\/<\/a>. Updated travel alerts related to the resurfacing project can also be found by clicking on that link.<\/p>\n<p>The City is spending about $15 million dollars this year completing what\u2019s known as a \u201cgrind and overlay\u201d project in order to recondition roadway sections in different parts of Yakima. A grind and overlay project involves removing old and deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt, which significantly improves the drivability and safety of the road surface. Over the next few months, the grind and overlay project will affect nearly every part of Yakima.<\/p>\n<p>While the grind and overlay work is underway, traffic delays in the project areas will occur.
