{"id":1815,"date":"2014-06-16T08:46:10","date_gmt":"2014-06-16T15:46:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=1815"},"modified":"2014-06-16T08:46:10","modified_gmt":"2014-06-16T15:46:10","slug":"citywide-road-resurfacing-project-update-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/citywide-road-resurfacing-project-update-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Citywide Road Resurfacing Project Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A citywide street repaving project that began in mid May and will continue until this fall will affect traffic in several areas of Yakima from June 16<sup>th<\/sup> through June 20<sup>th<\/sup>. The City is spending about $15 million dollars this year completing a \u201cgrind and overlay\u201d project, which involves removing old and deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt, in order to recondition more than 90 lane miles of roadway sections in different parts of Yakima.<\/p>\n<p>Since the project got underway, most of the work has been has focused on removing old sidewalks to install ADA ramps and preparing roadways to grind up old asphalt from streets. The actual grinding of the asphalt is now underway on some roadway segments. It\u2019s likely streets will not be repaved for about two weeks after the grinding portion of the project is completed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe grind and overlay process will make driving along the streets that are under construction inconvenient for a couple of weeks,\u201d said Senior City Engineer Bob Desgrosellier. \u201cWe hope that people will be as patient as possible and avoid streets that are being worked on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From Monday, June 16<sup>th<\/sup> through Friday, June 20<sup>th<\/sup>, periodic lane closures will occur each day from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm on 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue between Fruitvale Boulevard and River Road, on Nob Hill between 32<sup>nd<\/sup> Avenue and 40<sup>th<\/sup>, on 16<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue in the vicinity of Tieton Drive, on Yakima Avenue between 12<sup>th <\/sup>and 16<sup>th<\/sup>, on Tieton Drive between 16<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and 32<sup>nd<\/sup> Avenue, on Summitview between Yakima Avenue and 16<sup>th<\/sup>, on Walnut between 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street and 7<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue, and Lincoln Avenue between 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street and 10<sup>th<\/sup> Street.<\/p>\n<p>The following sections of streets will be completely closed to traffic overnight from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am on different days during the week of June 16<sup>th<\/sup> to June 20<sup>th<\/sup>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue between Highway 12 on and off ramps, Fruitvale Blvd and River Road \u2013 on June 16<sup>th<\/sup> and again on June 19<sup>th<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a03<sup>rd<\/sup> Avenue between MLK Jr. Blvd and &#8220;D&#8221; St. \u2013 June 16<sup>th<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tieton Drive between 16th and 32<sup>nd<\/sup> \u2013 June 16<sup>th<\/sup> through June 19<sup>th<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tieton Drive between 44<sup>th<\/sup> and 48<sup>th<\/sup> Avenues &#8211;June 19<sup>th<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Summitview between Yakima Ave and 16<sup>th <\/sup>Avenue \u2013 June 16<sup>th<\/sup> and June 17<sup>th<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Detour routes will be in place so drivers can go around the closed portions of those streets.<\/p>\n<p>A map showing the sections of roads that will be repaved during the project is posted on the City\u2019s website at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/apps\/streets\/resurfacing\/\">https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/apps\/streets\/resurfacing\/<\/a>.
