A citywide street repaving project that began earlier this month and will continue until this fall will affect traffic in several areas of Yakima from August 1st<\/sup> through August 8th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

***<\/strong><\/em> Starting Friday August 1st<\/sup> at 7:00 p.m. the intersection of 40th<\/sup> Avenue<\/strong><\/em> and <\/strong><\/em>Nob Hill Blvd.<\/strong><\/em> will be CLOSED TO ALL THROUGH TRAFFIC, including emergency vehicles,<\/strong><\/em> until 5:00 a.m. Monday August 4th<\/sup>. The intersection is being excavated for the placement of a cement concrete street section.<\/p>\n

From Monday, August 4th<\/sup> through Friday, August 8th<\/sup>, periodic lane closures will occur each day from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm<\/p>\n

on Walnut Street between 1st<\/sup> Street and 7th<\/sup> Avenue;<\/p>\n

on Lincoln Avenue from 1st<\/sup> Street to 10th<\/sup> Street;<\/p>\n

on 4th<\/sup> Avenue from Division to Walnut<\/p>\n

Various sections of the following streets will be also be completely closed to traffic overnight from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am on different days during the week of August 4th<\/sup> to August 8th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Nob Hill Blvd from 32nd<\/sup> Avenue to 48th<\/sup> Avenue,<\/p>\n

16th<\/sup> Avenue from Nob Hill Blvd to Englewood Avenue,<\/p>\n

Tieton Drive from 16th<\/sup> Avenue to 33rd<\/sup> Avenue,<\/p>\n

Tieton Drive from 40th<\/sup> Avenue to 48th<\/sup> Avenue,<\/p>\n

MLK Jr. Blvd from 8th<\/sup> Street to Pierce Avenue,<\/p>\n

Walnut Street from 1st<\/sup> Street to 8th<\/sup> Avenue,<\/p>\n

\u201cD\u201d Street from 1st<\/sup> Avenue to 5th<\/sup> Avenue,<\/p>\n

3rd<\/sup> Avenue from Walnut to \u201cD\u201d Street,<\/p>\n

Summitview Avenue from Yakima Avenue to 16th<\/sup> Avenue.<\/p>\n

Detour routes will be in place so drivers can go around the closed portions of those streets.<\/p>\n

A map showing the sections of roads that will be repaved during the project is posted on the City\u2019s website at https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/apps\/streets\/resurfacing\/<\/a>. Updated travel alerts related to the resurfacing project can also be found by clicking on that link.<\/p>\n

The City is spending about $15 million dollars this year completing what\u2019s known as a \u201cgrind and overlay\u201d project in order to recondition roadway sections in different parts of Yakima. A grind and overlay project involves removing old and deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt, which significantly improves the drivability and safety of the road surface. Over the next few months, the grind and overlay project will affect nearly every part of Yakima.<\/p>\n

While the grind and overlay work is underway, traffic delays in the project areas will occur. Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.<\/p>\n

Access to homes and businesses in the project areas will be maintained as best as possible and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project areas if necessary.<\/p>\n

As always, the schedule for these types of projects is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.<\/p>\n
