A citywide street repaving project that began about two months and will continue until this fall will affect traffic in several areas of Yakima from August 11th<\/sup> through August 15th<\/sup>. The project involves reconditioning more than 90 lane miles of roads and will cost a total of $15 million. The \u201cgrind and overlay\u201d project is now just over one-third complete.<\/p>\n

From Monday, August 11th<\/sup> through Friday, August 15th<\/sup>, periodic lane closures will occur each day from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm on Walnut Street between 1st<\/sup> Street and 7th<\/sup> Avenue, on Lincoln Avenue from 1st<\/sup> Street to 10th<\/sup> Street, on Lincoln from 1st<\/sup> Avenue to 16th<\/sup> Avenue, on 4th<\/sup> Avenue from Division Street to Walnut, and on MLK, Jr. Boulevard from Pierce Avenue to 1st<\/sup> Avenue.<\/p>\n

Various sections of the following streets will be also be completely closed to traffic overnight from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am on different days during the week of August 11th<\/sup> to August 15th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Nob Hill Blvd from 32nd<\/sup> Avenue to 48th<\/sup> Avenue<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 16th<\/sup> Avenue from Nob Hill Boulevard to Englewood Avenue<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4th<\/sup> Avenue from Division to Walnut<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5th<\/sup> Avenue from Walnut to Yakima Avenue<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 MLK, Jr. Blvd from 1st<\/sup> Street to 8th<\/sup> Street<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 MLK, Jr. Blvd from Pierce to 1st<\/sup> Avenue<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Walnut from 1st<\/sup> Street to 8th<\/sup> Avenue<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 D Street from 1st<\/sup> Avenue to 5th<\/sup> Avenue<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lincoln Avenue from 1st<\/sup> Street to 9th<\/sup> Street<\/p>\n

Detour routes will be in place so drivers can go around the closed portions of those streets.<\/p>\n

A map showing the sections of roads that will be repaved during the project is posted on the City\u2019s website at https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/apps\/streets\/resurfacing\/<\/a>. Updated travel alerts related to the resurfacing project can also be found by clicking on that link.<\/p>\n

While the grind and overlay work is underway, traffic delays in the project areas will occur. Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.<\/p>\n

Access to homes and businesses in the project areas will be maintained as best as possible and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project areas if necessary.<\/p>\n

As always, the schedule for these types of projects is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.<\/p>\n
