Contracting, Inc., a Pasco-based construction firm, is the primary contractor for an approximately $980,000 project that has improved the irrigation system in several neighborhoods in Yakima.\u00a0 Work on the West Yakima Irrigation System Phase 2 Improvements project, which began in November of 2014, is nearly complete.<\/p>\n<p>The contractor has completed the installation of all new irrigation mains and services throughout the project area and the system is now operational. The final asphalt surface restoration on Summitview Avenue and Cleman Avenue has also been completed.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday April 27<sup>th<\/sup> and Tuesday, April 28<sup>th<\/sup>, the contractor will raise the existing utility structures in Summitview Avenue in the area of the pavement, and then will finish the lane striping on Wednesday, April 29<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>While the paving operations are underway, construction equipment such as backhoes and dump trucks will be used. Traffic control devices will be used throughout the areas of construction and traffic will be routed around the construction.\u00a0 Travel will be restricted to one lane in each direction on Summitview Avenue. Although access may be temporarily restricted in the immediate areas of construction, access to homes and businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 5,130 linear feet of new 3-inch and 4-inch high-density polyethylene (\u201cHDPE\u201d) pipe and approximately 7,390 linear feet of new 3-inch to 12-inch polyvinyl chloride (\u201cPVC\u201d) pipe was installed.\u00a0 More than 200 new irrigation service connections have also been completed as part of the project.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the project is provided from the City\u2019s Irrigation Capital Improvement budget.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the project, contact Water\/Irrigation Engineer Mike Shane at 576-6480.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/West-Yakima-Irrigation-Improvement-Project-Update-News-Release1.pdf\">West Yakima Irrigation Improvement Project Update &#8211; News Release<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>P.O.W.
