More than 1,900 players and as many as 12,000 spectators will fill Downtown Yakima streets this weekend for the 2017 Annual Hot Shots 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament.\u00a0 The tournament will feature a total of 509 teams, the most entries in the event\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
To accommodate the 43 courts and a large vendor area, several sections of streets in Downtown Yakima will be closed from the evening of Friday, August 25th<\/sup> until the evening of Sunday, August 27th<\/sup>.\u00a0 For those days, no traffic will be allowed on Yakima Avenue between 1st<\/sup> Street and Naches Avenue, 2nd<\/sup> Street between Chestnut Avenue and the alley half a block north of Yakima Avenue, and 3rd<\/sup> Street between Chestnut Avenue and the alley half a block north of Yakima Avenue.\u00a0 Only local traffic will be allowed on 4th<\/sup> Street between Chestnut Avenue and Yakima Avenue from Friday evening until Sunday evening.<\/p>\n \u201cSince it began in 2003, the Hot Shots tournament has become one of the biggest 3 on 3 events in the Northwest,\u201d said Communications & Public Affairs Director Randy Beehler.\u00a0 \u201cThe hard work of the Yakima Sports Commission and the many volunteers who make the event run have paid off,\u201d said Beehler.<\/p>\n The Hot Shots 3 on 3 tournament includes multiple age divisions for boys and girls teams and features women\u2019s, men\u2019s, and coed divisions for adults.\u00a0 Each team can have no more than four players and no fewer than three players.\u00a0 Each game lasts until one team scores 20 points or for 20 minutes.\u00a0 If teams are tied after the regulation 20 game time, the winner is decided by a free throw shootout.<\/p>\n Since 3rd<\/sup> Street between Chestnut Avenue and Yakima Avenue will be being utilized by the Hot Shots tournament, the Yakima Farmer\u2019s Market will be held on 3rd<\/sup> Street between Chestnut Avenue and Walnut Street (one block south of its normal location) this Sunday.<\/p>\n Free parking for Hot Shots players and spectators will be available in the public lot near the Millennium Plaza (between 2nd<\/sup> Street and 3rd<\/sup> Street), which can be accessed from Chestnut Avenue, the public lot at the corner of 2nd<\/sup> Street and S Sgt Pendleton Way, the Yakima County Courthouse lot, which can be accessed from S Sgt Pendleton Way, the public lot off of 1st<\/sup> Street near the Crafted restaurant, and any available on-street spaces including angled spaces.<\/p>\n The finals in each division will take place Sunday afternoon and evening.<\/p>\n For more information about this year\u2019s tournament, visit the official Hot Shots 3 on 3 website at http:\/\/hotshots3on3.com\/<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
