During its regular business meeting on Tuesday, September 19, the Yakima City Council directed City staff to review the possibility of expanding the Yakima Business Improvement District (DYBID) boundaries.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The action stems from suggestions to keep the continuity and look of Downtown Yakima and interest by some adjacent property owners in having their sites again included in the DYBID’s boundaries.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span>“Options could include working with the Downtown Association of Yakima to perform outreach to adjacent property owners to the DYBID in order to determine if there is firm interest in rejoining the district,” said Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The City Council established the DYBID in 2008 as a mechanism to pay for day-to-day maintenance in Downtown Yakima following improvements made through the City’s Downtown Futures Initiative. That initiative was approved by more than 60 percent of property owners responsible for paying the assessment supported by the initiative.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In 2012, the Council agreed to reduce the DYBID’s boundaries to focus on the Yakima Avenue section.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
