The Council will conduct the hearing at 6:30 pm during its regularly scheduled business meeting on October 17<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe comprehensive plan helps us determine how best to use our resources to provide the kinds of facilities and programs that the community wants most,\u201d said Parks and Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson.<\/p>\n<p>The Parks and Recreation Department conducted a survey of City residents last year and those results were used to help update the Comprehensive Plan. The survey was mailed to over 4,500 randomly selected households. It asked participants to provide information ranging from basic demographic data to when, why, and how they use City parks. The survey also provided the opportunity for parks facilities and recreation programs to be rated, for Parks and Recreation Division customer service to be evaluated, and for new ideas to be shared.<\/p>\n<p>As a requirement of the Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) for the State of Washington, the Yakima City Council is required to review and formally adopt a five-year Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan.\u00a0The Plan is also reviewed by Parks and Recreation Commission and City staff.<\/p>\n<p>Adoption of the Plan allows the City\u2019s Parks and Recreation Division the opportunity to be eligible to apply for RCO grant funding for Park and Recreation projects and land acquisition.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed Comprehensive Plan is available for review prior to the October 17<sup>th<\/sup> hearing by clicking <a href=\"https:\/\/yakimaparks.com\/assets\/Comp-plan-DRAFT.pdf\">https:\/\/yakimaparks.com\/assets\/Comp-plan-DRAFT.pdf<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Parks-and-Recreation-Comp-Plan-Hearing-News-Release.pdf\">Parks and Recreation Comp Plan Hearing &#8211; News Release<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Yakima City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, October 17th, to receive comment on the proposed 2017-2022 Comprehensive Plan for Parks and Recreation.
