Preparations are under way for the arrival of Yakima’s Community Christmas Tree next Monday, Nov. 20.<\/p>\n
A Spruce tree standing about 40 feet tall will arrive at Millennium Plaza at approximately 10:00 am Monday, November 20th<\/sup>, said Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins.<\/p>\n “The tree installation is a partnership with Russell Crane, Gilbert Orchards, the City’s Public Works Department and the Downtown Association of Yakima,” Hawkins said. “They all help in different ways.”<\/p>\n A Terrace Heights resident is donating the tree. It will be removed Monday morning and brought to downtown Yakima.<\/p>\n The official tree lighting ceremony will be Sunday, December 3rd<\/sup>, at the conclusion of Downtown Yakima’s annual Holiday Lighted Parade. The parade starts at 6:00 pm.<\/p>\n Volunteers with the Downtown Association of Yakima will be hanging lights on trees in the Plaza area prior to the parade and lighting ceremony.<\/p>\n “It adds a lot of light and color to kick-off the holiday season,” Hawkins said of the preparations.<\/p>\n Plans for transporting the tree to downtown on Monday morning are subject to the weather, he said. The tree’s arrival will not impact traffic, though some parking spaces on Third Street may be closed to accommodate the installation.<\/p>\n
