{"id":5207,"date":"2017-11-30T16:19:35","date_gmt":"2017-12-01T00:19:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=5207"},"modified":"2017-11-30T16:19:35","modified_gmt":"2017-12-01T00:19:35","slug":"intersection-safety-improvements-impact-traffic-40th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/intersection-safety-improvements-impact-traffic-40th\/","title":{"rendered":"Intersection Safety Improvements to Impact Traffic on 40th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The northbound and southbound inside lanes along a section of 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue will be closed from Friday, December 1<sup>st<\/sup> through Monday, December 4<sup>th<\/sup> while a project involving several intersection safety improvements is underway.<\/p>\n<p>The northbound and southbound inside lanes of 40<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue from just north and just south of the 40<sup>th<\/sup> and Chestnut Avenue intersection will be closed from December 1<sup>st<\/sup> through December 4<sup>th<\/sup> as a result of the project.\u00a0 Elements of the project include centerline curbing to prevent vehicles from making left-hand turns at the intersection from Chestnut onto 40<sup>th<\/sup>, two new, marked east-west crosswalks across 40<sup>th<\/sup>, and pedestrian crossing signals.<\/p>\n<p>The project resulted from safety concerns expressed by people who live in the neighborhood near the 40<sup>th<\/sup> and Chestnut intersection and the high volume of accidents that have occurred at the intersection.\u00a0 Input received during a public meeting earlier this year contributed to the design of the intersection safety improvements.<\/p>\n<p>During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur.\u00a0 Drivers should use alternate routes until the project is completed.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related works zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.<\/p>\n<p>As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>For additional information about this project, contact Construction Supervisor Bruce Floyd at 575-6138.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/40th-and-Chestnut-Intersection-Safety-Improvements-News-Release.pdf\">40th and Chestnut Intersection Safety Improvements &#8211; News Release<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The northbound and southbound inside lanes along a section of 40th Avenue will be closed from Friday, December 1st through Monday, December 4th while a project involving several intersection safety improvements is underway.
