{"id":5405,"date":"2018-01-25T15:34:23","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T23:34:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=5405"},"modified":"2018-01-25T15:34:23","modified_gmt":"2018-01-25T23:34:23","slug":"city-yakima-tour-talk-yakima-airport-snow-ice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/city-yakima-tour-talk-yakima-airport-snow-ice\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Yakima Tour &amp; Talk \u2013 Yakima Airport Snow and Ice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Yakima will host a <strong>&#8220;Tour &amp; Talk&#8221;<\/strong> for media at the <strong>Yakima Air Terminal\/McAllister Field maintenance facility<\/strong> (3106 Washington Avenue) on <strong>Tuesday, January 30<sup>th<\/sup> from 10:30 am until about 11:00 am<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The event will focus on processes and equipment air terminal staff use to combat ice and snow during winter months in an attempt to keep the airport open and operating normally.\u00a0 Media will be able to video and take pictures of various pieces of equipment used by air terminal staff during inclement weather.\u00a0 Airport staff will provide explanations of how each piece of equipment is utilized and why occasionally the airport may shut down during snow and ice events.<\/p>\n<p>Yakima Air Terminal\/McAllister Field Airport Director Rob Peterson will lead the airport maintenance facility Tour &amp; Talk.\u00a0 Yakima City Council members have also been invited to attend the Tour &amp; Talk.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Yakima Air Terminal\/McAllister Field is well prepared to manage snow and ice events and keep our facilities open and available to our customers,&#8221; said Peterson.\u00a0 &#8220;Our staff is also taking additional steps to enhance its capabilities to battle challenging weather.\u00a0 Occasionally though, the weather dictates temporary closures of the airport and we want media and the rest of the community to be well educated about how the airport staff responds to winter weather now and how it plans to do so in the future,&#8221; said Peterson.<\/p>\n<p>The January 30<sup>th<\/sup> Tour &amp; Talk at the airport maintenance facility is the first of what the City plans on making a series of opportunities for media to become more familiar with the work it performs and to share that information with the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through periodic Tour &amp; Talk events, the City will give media a more &#8216;behind-the-scenes&#8217; look at some of its projects, facilities, programs, etc.,&#8221; said Communications &amp; Public Affairs Director Randy Beehler.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For more information about the January 30<sup>th<\/sup> Tour &amp; Talk at the Yakima Air Terminal\/McAllister Field maintenance facility, contact Beehler by phone (901-1142) or by e-mail (<a href=\"mailto:randy.beehler@yakimawa.gov\">randy.beehler@yakimawa.gov<\/a>).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Yakima-Airport-Tour-Talk-News-Release.pdf\">Yakima Airport Tour &amp; Talk &#8211; News Release<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Yakima will host a &#8220;Tour &amp; Talk&#8221; for media at the Yakima Air Terminal\/McAllister Field maintenance facility (3106 Washington Avenue) on Tuesday, January 30th from 10:30 am until about 11:00 am.
