A grant-funded trial program that provides an extra morning route for Yakima Transit’s Ellensburg Commuter is entering its second month.<\/p>\n
The trial run is for 3 months, through the end of March, and may be extended depending on rider response.<\/p>\n
“We’ve added a morning run to see how much demand there would be to get people to Ellensburg or Yakima just before 8:00 a.m. instead of them having to wait for an extended period of time,” said Yakima Transit Manager Alvie Maxey. “We’re in the process of getting feedback from passengers through surveys.”<\/p>\n
The trial run is one of 8 daily trips each way that the Commuter provides between Yakima and Ellensburg. The commuter makes 8 stops during each of its runs.<\/p>\n
The presence of Central Washington University in Ellensburg and Yakima Valley College in Yakima were factors in launching the morning trial run.<\/p>\n
“A good part of the ridership is students and faculty from both schools,” Maxey said.<\/p>\n
