{"id":545,"date":"2013-05-01T10:30:35","date_gmt":"2013-05-01T17:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=545"},"modified":"2013-05-01T15:45:14","modified_gmt":"2013-05-01T22:45:14","slug":"downtown-summer-nights-concerts-to-feature-a-wide-variety-of-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/downtown-summer-nights-concerts-to-feature-a-wide-variety-of-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Downtown Summer Nights Concerts to Feature a Wide Variety of Music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Yakima, Townsquare Media, and Legends Casino have joined forces to create <i>Downtown Summer Nights<\/i>, a new Thursday evening concert series that will feature a diverse mix of musical styles ranging from blues to rock, salsa to country.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored by Legends Casino and produced by the City and Townsquare, the free and family-friendly <i>Downtown Summer Nights<\/i> series will kick off its 11 show run on June 13<sup>th<\/sup> with Nashville-based <i>Too Slim and the Taildraggers<\/i>, a blues\/rock group that has built an international following since it was founded in Spokane in 1986.\u00a0 <i>Brewers Grade <\/i>will bring its brand of Northwest country music to the <i>Downtown Summer Nights <\/i>stage on June 20<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Indie rock group <i>The Village Musicians<\/i>, made up of three brothers and a best friend, will headline the show on June 27<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>After taking a break for the July 4<sup>th<\/sup> holiday, <i>Downtown Summer Nights <\/i>will return on July 11<sup>th<\/sup> with <i>Fino<\/i>, a Tri-Cities band whose rich repertoire includes salsa, funk, Tejano, country, classic rock, and contemporary.\u00a0 With its unique blend of rock and folk, Yakima and Northwest favorite <i>Not Amy <\/i>will be the featured act on July 18<sup>th<\/sup> and will be followed on July 25<sup>th<\/sup> by up-and-coming country singer Kate Turner.<\/p>\n<p>August will start with <i>3<sup>rd<\/sup> Date<\/i>, a true Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll band from the Tri-Cities area, taking the <i>Downtown Summer Nights <\/i>stage on August 1<sup>st<\/sup>.\u00a0 Country group <i>Chase<\/i> will be next up on August 8<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 The unique sounds of Australian-born <i>Blake Noble<\/i>, a percussive guitarist who also plays the didgeridoo, will be on display during the August 15<sup>th<\/sup> show.\u00a0 While producers are still working to fill the August 22<sup>nd<\/sup> slot, they have lined up Seattle-based <i>Eclectic Approach<\/i>, which has appeared on <i>Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/i> and is currently on a U.S. tour, to close out the series on August 29<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><i>Downtown Summer Nights <\/i>events will start at 5:00 pm and will take place on 4<sup>th<\/sup> Street behind the Capitol Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to the great music, there will also be craft vendors, kids activities, food booths run by local restaurants, and a beer and wine garden,\u201d said Yakima Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s<i> <\/i>going to be a lot of fun.\u00a0 There will be something for everyone,\u201d said Hawkins.\u00a0 \u201c<i>Downtown Summer Nights <\/i>is one more piece of the puzzle that we\u2019re putting in place to grow Downtown Yakima\u2019s reputation as an arts and entertainment destination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <i>Downtown Summer Nights <\/i>website \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.downtownsummernights.com\/\">www.downtownsummernights.com<\/a> \u2013 includes a complete list of musical performers, information about how vendors can sign up for booth space, and other news about the series.\u00a0 Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins can also be contacted by phone (575-6274) or by e-mail (<a href=\"mailto:sean.hawkins@yakimawa.gov\">sean.hawkins@yakimawa.gov<\/a>) by anyone wanting to learn more about the <i>Downtown Summer Nights <\/i>concert series.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">&#8211; end &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Downtown-Summer-Nights-Lineup-News-Release.pdf\">Downtown Summer Nights Lineup &#8211; News Release<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Contact:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins \u2013 575-6274<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Communications &amp; Public Affairs Director Randy Beehler \u2013 901-1142<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Yakima, Townsquare Media, and Legends Casino have joined forces to create Downtown Summer Nights, a new Thursday evening concert series that will feature a diverse mix of musical styles ranging from blues to rock, salsa to country.
