Entries are now being sought for the first-ever St. Patrick’s Day Iron Chef at the City of Yakima’s Harman Center.<\/p>\n
The free Iron Chef & Dance event will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n “It’s a brand new idea for us,” said Recreation Program Supervisor Leslie Richards. “We wanted to have an Iron Chef competition and St. Patrick’s Day provided us an opportunity.”<\/p>\n Iron Chef competitors will be asked to provide samples of an Irish cuisine item, Richards said. Guinness Beer must be one of the ingredients in their prepared food entries.<\/p>\n Would-be “iron chefs” have until Thursday, March 1st<\/sup>, to sign up for the competition.<\/p>\n The dance and Iron Chef competition will both be held during the same 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. timeframe on March 16th. “Those who attend the dance are invited to get a taste of each Irish food entry and vote for their favorite,” Richards said.<\/p>\n The winner will receive a gift card and a St Patrick’s Day Iron Chef trophy.<\/p>\n Entertainer Gary Malner will provide Irish, Polka and rock & roll music during the event.<\/p>\n Besides dancing and taste-testing Irish cuisine, those attending the St. Patrick’s Day Iron Chef & Dance are invited to purchase tickets for a raffle that will be held during the event. Local businesses have donated prizes for raffle winners.<\/p>\n “We’re hoping it will be a ton of fun,” Richards said.<\/p>\n The Harman Center is located at 101 North 65th<\/sup> Avenue.
