{"id":5941,"date":"2018-06-13T10:51:53","date_gmt":"2018-06-13T17:51:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=5941"},"modified":"2018-06-13T10:51:53","modified_gmt":"2018-06-13T17:51:53","slug":"harman-center-seeks-help-with-teddy-bear-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/harman-center-seeks-help-with-teddy-bear-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Harman Center Seeks Help With Teddy Bear Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">A project to comfort children during distress or an emergency is being organized at the City of Yakima&#8217;s Harman Center, 101 N. 65<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Called the Help the Community Project, the effort involves creating teddy bears out of wash cloths and face towels.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">&#8220;We&#8217;re working on quarterly projects to give back to the community,&#8221; said Recreation Program Supervisor Leslie Richards. &#8220;The teddy bears will be given to the Police Department to comfort children when they or their family are in an emergency or disaster situation.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Richards estimates the Harman Center has enough on hand to create 60 or 70 teddy bears. &#8220;We can always use more,&#8221; she said, noting it only takes one wash cloth or towel to create one of the small cuddly bears.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">New or slightly used wash cloths and hand towels can be dropped off at the Harman Center&#8217;s front desk.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Volunteers will assemble the bears beginning at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 22<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">nd<\/span><\/sup>.
