{"id":5989,"date":"2018-06-25T12:11:46","date_gmt":"2018-06-25T19:11:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=5989"},"modified":"2018-06-25T12:20:30","modified_gmt":"2018-06-25T19:20:30","slug":"association-of-washington-cities-conference-in-yakima","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/association-of-washington-cities-conference-in-yakima\/","title":{"rendered":"Association of Washington Cities Conference in Yakima"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">A statewide organization representing all 281 cities in Washington will hold its annual conference in Yakima starting tomorrow.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Association of Washington Cities&#8217; (AWC) 85<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> annual conference is Tuesday, June 26<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> through Friday, June 29<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> at the Yakima Convention Center, 10 N. 8<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Street.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">&#8220;Yakima is a special place to call home\u00ad\u2014we cherish our strong sense of community and connection to one another,&#8221; said Yakima Mayor Kathy Coffey. &#8220;And, at the City of Yakima, we cherish our strong connection to AWC and the 280 other cities and towns in Washington state.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Yakima is no stranger to the AWC. The City hosted the annual conference eight years ago.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">In fact, the organization began right here in Yakima. In 1933, Yakima Mayor W.W. Stratton summoned city officials from across the state to Yakima to stand together on issues affecting communities.
