{"id":6027,"date":"2018-07-06T10:35:42","date_gmt":"2018-07-06T17:35:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=6027"},"modified":"2018-07-06T10:35:42","modified_gmt":"2018-07-06T17:35:42","slug":"free-concerts-movies-coming-to-yakima-parks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/free-concerts-movies-coming-to-yakima-parks\/","title":{"rendered":"Free Concerts, Movies Coming to Yakima Parks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">City of Yakima parks will be alive with the sound of music \u2013 and movies \u2013 during three different series that begin next week.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">&#8220;The idea is to encourage families to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the free concerts and films outdoors,&#8221; said Parks &amp; Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson. &#8220;The community is invited to r<\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">elax and listen to great music or watch family films in a beautiful park.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Summer Sunset Concert Series at Franklin Park, 2101 Tieton Drive, will kick things off on Friday, July 13<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> with the Americana\/Alt-Country band Little Spirits (featuring Star Anna). Other performances &#8211; all are from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm \u2013 include Massy Ferguson on July 20<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>, Pat Moss on July 27<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>, The Mongrels &amp; Co. on August 3<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">rd<\/span><\/sup>, the Rod Giles Band on August 10<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> and the Joe Brooks Quartet on August 17<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Viva La Musica Concert Series also returns and this year will be held at two City parks.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Viva La Musica begins Sunday, July 15<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> at Miller Park, on the corner of North 4<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Street and East E Street, with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: windowtext;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">Los Arroyo de Jungapeo Michoac\u00e1n<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">. Miller Park will also host Grupo Adrenalina on July 22<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">nd<\/span><\/sup>, and Hermanos Gonzales on July 29<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Martin Luther King Jr. Park, on the corner of South 8<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Street and East Beech Street, will feature Viva La Musica concerts by Sinceridad De La Sierra on August 5<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>, Los Piebes De Tierra Caliente on August 12<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>, and Avion on August 19<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>. All concerts are from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Viva La Musica&#8217;s finale for this summer will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on September 16<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> at Miller Park. The September 16<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> finale will feature entertainment magic for children by Payaso Cacharro at 4:00 pm, followed by concerts performed by Faraones Del Norte USA at 5:00 pm and La Tropa Chicana at 6:00 pm<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">As for the movies, the Outdoor Summer Cinema Series returns Sunday, July 15<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> to the City&#8217;s Chesterley Park, on the corner of 40<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue and River Road. The movies will each begin at sunset, about 8:30 pm, on six consecutive Sundays. The film series begins with &#8220;Cars&#8221; on July 15<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>, &#8220;Justice League&#8221; on July 22<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">nd<\/span><\/sup>, &#8220;Holes&#8221; on July 29<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>, &#8220;Field of Dreams&#8221; on August 5<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>, &#8220;Guardians of the Galaxy&#8221; on August 12<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>, and &#8220;The Lion King&#8221; on August 19<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">For more information, call 575-6020 or see Page 9 of the City of Yakima Parks and Recreation 2018 Summer Program Guide.
