City of Yakima parks will be alive with the sound of music \u2013 and movies \u2013 during three different series that begin next week.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“The idea is to encourage families to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the free concerts and films outdoors,” said Parks & Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson. “The community is invited to r<\/span><\/span>elax and listen to great music or watch family films in a beautiful park.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The Summer Sunset Concert Series at Franklin Park, 2101 Tieton Drive, will kick things off on Friday, July 13th<\/span><\/sup> with the Americana\/Alt-Country band Little Spirits (featuring Star Anna). Other performances – all are from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm \u2013 include Massy Ferguson on July 20th<\/span><\/sup>, Pat Moss on July 27th<\/span><\/sup>, The Mongrels & Co. on August 3rd<\/span><\/sup>, the Rod Giles Band on August 10th<\/span><\/sup> and the Joe Brooks Quartet on August 17th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Viva La Musica Concert Series also returns and this year will be held at two City parks.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Viva La Musica begins Sunday, July 15th<\/span><\/sup> at Miller Park, on the corner of North 4th<\/span><\/sup> Street and East E Street, with <\/span><\/span>Los Arroyo de Jungapeo Michoac\u00e1n<\/span>. Miller Park will also host Grupo Adrenalina on July 22nd<\/span><\/sup>, and Hermanos Gonzales on July 29th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Martin Luther King Jr. Park, on the corner of South 8th<\/span><\/sup> Street and East Beech Street, will feature Viva La Musica concerts by Sinceridad De La Sierra on August 5th<\/span><\/sup>, Los Piebes De Tierra Caliente on August 12th<\/span><\/sup>, and Avion on August 19th<\/span><\/sup>. All concerts are from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Viva La Musica’s finale for this summer will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on September 16th<\/span><\/sup> at Miller Park. The September 16th<\/span><\/sup> finale will feature entertainment magic for children by Payaso Cacharro at 4:00 pm, followed by concerts performed by Faraones Del Norte USA at 5:00 pm and La Tropa Chicana at 6:00 pm<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As for the movies, the Outdoor Summer Cinema Series returns Sunday, July 15th<\/span><\/sup> to the City’s Chesterley Park, on the corner of 40th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue and River Road. The movies will each begin at sunset, about 8:30 pm, on six consecutive Sundays. The film series begins with “Cars” on July 15th<\/span><\/sup>, “Justice League” on July 22nd<\/span><\/sup>, “Holes” on July 29th<\/span><\/sup>, “Field of Dreams” on August 5th<\/span><\/sup>, “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 12th<\/span><\/sup>, and “The Lion King” on August 19th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
