{"id":6112,"date":"2018-07-27T13:01:28","date_gmt":"2018-07-27T20:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=6112"},"modified":"2018-07-27T13:05:48","modified_gmt":"2018-07-27T20:05:48","slug":"hazardous-weather-predicted-for-yakima-central-washington","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/hazardous-weather-predicted-for-yakima-central-washington\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Hazardous Weather&#8221; Predicted for Yakima, Central Washington"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">The National Weather Service (&#8220;NWS&#8221;) issued a special weather statement today, Friday, calling for &#8220;Hazardous Weather Conditions&#8221; in Yakima and Central Washington.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">&#8220;<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">A strong high pressure system will strengthen over the Pacific Northwest and temperatures will continue to approach the century mark through the weekend,&#8221; the NWS&#8217; statement said. &#8220;By Monday and Tuesday, temperatures are expected to climb even higher and approach or exceed record-high temperatures.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">For Yakima, specifically, the NWS forecasts a high temperature of 103 degrees on Monday, July 30<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>. The city&#8217;s record-high temperature for that day is 104 degrees, set in 2003.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">The combination of hot temperatures and low humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. For example, h<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">eat stress and dehydration could lead to health concerns such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">The <\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.redcross.org\/news\/article\/Red-Cross-How-to-Stay-Safe-in-Hot-Weather\">American Red Cross<\/a><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"> suggests the following tips for staying safe during hot weather:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">Never leave children or pets in your vehicle. The inside temperature of the car can quickly reach 120 degrees<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: windowtext;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">Avoid extreme temperature changes<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: windowtext;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun\u2019s rays.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: windowtext;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: windowtext;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">Postpone outdoor games and activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: windowtext;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">Use a buddy system when working in excessive heat.
