{"id":6333,"date":"2018-09-20T10:10:01","date_gmt":"2018-09-20T17:10:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=6333"},"modified":"2018-09-20T10:10:01","modified_gmt":"2018-09-20T17:10:01","slug":"sunfair-parade-kicks-off-fair-season-in-yakima-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/sunfair-parade-kicks-off-fair-season-in-yakima-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunfair Parade Kicks Off Fair Season in Yakima"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">For the 57<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> year in a row, the Yakima Sunfair Parade will follow its familiar route of more than one-and-a-half miles through Downtown Yakima on Saturday, September 22<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">nd<\/span><\/sup>.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The parade is expected to include more than 300 participants as it makes its way down Yakima Avenue from 16<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue to Naches Avenue. It is estimated there will be more than 10,000 spectators during the Sunfair Parade.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The 2018 Yakima Sunfair Parade will begin at 10:00 am and is expected to last for about three hours. This year\u2019s grand marshal is Yakima County Sheriff Brian Winter.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 8pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\"><b>Beginning at 8:00 am on Saturday, no parking will be allowed on Yakima Avenue between 16<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue and Naches Avenue.\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">Side streets along the parade route will also be closed to through traffic while the parade is underway. As the last entries in the parade pass by the closed side streets, they will be reopened to traffic.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Entries in the 2018 Yakima Sunfair Parade will be staged along 16<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue between Summitview Avenue and Nob Hill Boulevard.\u00a0 That section of 16<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue will be closed to all traffic, as will side streets that intersect 16<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue, from 6:00 am until parade entries make their way onto the parade route.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Due to the parade, Yakima Transit will not start bus service on any routes on Saturday until 12:45 pm.\u00a0 Special shuttles to State Fair Park will run as scheduled while the parade is underway.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The annual Yakima Sunfair Parade is coordinated by the Yakima Sunfair Festival Association. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/2018-Sunfair-Parade-News-Release.pdf\">2018 Sunfair Parade &#8211; News Release<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the 57th year in a row, the Yakima Sunfair Parade will follow its familiar route of more than one-and-a-half miles through Downtown Yakima on Saturday, September 22nd.\u00a0 The parade is expected to include more than 300 participants as it makes its way down Yakima Avenue from 16th Avenue to Naches Avenue.
