A City of Yakima project to replace trees and sidewalks along a portion of Naches Avenue will begin next Monday, November 5th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The project includes a section of Naches Avenue from Walnut Street to Pacific Avenue. Work to begin next week includes pulling out old sidewalks and removing trees in the public right-of-way. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Naches Avenue sidewalk\/tree project is the first to break ground with funding through Transportation Benefit District (TBD) car tab fees approved by the Yakima City Council late last year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“It is gratifying to see these dollars benefiting our local neighborhoods,” said Mayor Kathy Coffey. “Residents and businesses will continue to see these improvements in additional areas of Yakima as the program continues year after year.”\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Naches Avenue sidewalk\/tree replacement project will continue through spring 2019. New trees selected for the area will have roots that do not damage City infrastructure.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“This project will be a welcome improvement in our neighborhood,” said Yakima City Councilmember Jason White, who represents District No. 2 on the council. “I look forward to seeing its progress over the next several months.” <\/span><\/p>\n

Drivers should expect traffic impacts as the project moves forward.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“There will be rolling road closures as the project advances from block to block,” said Streets and Traffic Operations Manager Joe Rosenlund.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Drivers are reminded the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Access to homes and businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
