{"id":6572,"date":"2018-11-07T14:28:56","date_gmt":"2018-11-07T22:28:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=6572"},"modified":"2018-11-07T14:28:56","modified_gmt":"2018-11-07T22:28:56","slug":"veterans-to-be-honored-with-downtown-yakima-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/veterans-to-be-honored-with-downtown-yakima-parade\/","title":{"rendered":"Veterans to be Honored with Downtown Yakima Parade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Yakima community will honor its veterans and all U.S. military veterans by staging the 2018 Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Yakima on Sunday, November 11<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup>.\u00a0 The parade is sponsored annually by the Veterans of Foreign Wars \u2013 Post 379.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The parade will begin at 10:45 am at the intersection of Yakima Avenue and 6<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Street. The route will continue west on Yakima Avenue to 6<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue where marchers will turn south.\u00a0 The parade will end about a half-block east of the VFW \u2013 Post 379 building, which is located at 118 S. 5<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue. It is scheduled to end at 12:00 pm.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: windowtext;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\">The Veterans Day Parade Grand Marshal will be Lloyd Gabrial, a World War II prisoner of war, said Fred Camerer of VFW Post 379. Organizers anticipate approximately 500 participants and 75 vehicles in the parade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">No parking will be allowed on Yakima Avenue between 6<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Street and 6<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue from 8:45 am on November 11<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> until the parade is completed.\u00a0 Cars parked along that portion of Yakima Avenue during that time will be subject to being towed at the owner\u2019s expense.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Yakima Avenue will be closed to motorized traffic from 6<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Avenue to 6<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> Street.
