Lighting upgrades have been\ncompleted for the westside parking lot at the City of Yakima’s West Valley\nCommunity Park. The project is in response to a public safety forum the City\nCouncil hosted Dec. 10th<\/sup> at the Harman Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City of\nYakima’s Traffic Operations Signals and Lighting staff completed parking lot\nupgrades at West Valley Community Park that included replacing two light\nfixtures with new, LED lights. In addition, staff added another LED light and\nrepaired one of the existing lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The increase in lighting is\nsignificant and should add to the safety of the park during the evening\nhours,” said Interim Police Chief Gary Jones. “Our officers\nappreciate the efforts of City staff members to address this issue so\nquickly.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to improving safety,\nthe lighting will also enhance the community’s ability to detect suspicious\nactivity, Jones said. “If the public sees suspicious activity, we ask that\nthey please report it,” he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
