{"id":69,"date":"2013-02-22T09:40:12","date_gmt":"2013-02-22T17:40:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=69"},"modified":"2013-03-12T09:41:14","modified_gmt":"2013-03-12T16:41:14","slug":"mlk-underdpass-project-about-to-begin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/mlk-underdpass-project-about-to-begin\/","title":{"rendered":"MLK, Jr. Blvd. Underpass Project About To Begin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Contact:<\/strong> Utilities and Engineering Director Debbie Cook \u2013 575-6120<\/p>\n<p><strong>Release Date:<\/strong> February 22nd, 2013<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, February 25th, Mowat Construction Company will begin moving equipment and materials into the area near the BSNF Railroad tracks crossing MLK, Jr. Blvd. in preparation for the start of construction on Yakima&#8217;s newest underpass.<\/p>\n<p>Also on February 25<sup>th<\/sup>, Mowat will begin preparing to close MLK, Jr. Blvd. between 1<sup>st<\/sup> Avenue and 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street.\u00a0 Electronic reader boards will alert drivers about the pending closure, which is scheduled to start on Monday, March 11<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 While MLK, Jr. Blvd. west of 1<sup>st<\/sup> Avenue will remain open to local traffic during construction, eastbound drivers on MLK, Jr. Blvd. will be encouraged to turn right on 5<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and use Yakima Avenue to reach downtown Yakima.<\/p>\n<p>Mowat, the primary contractor for the MLK, Jr. Blvd. underpass, expects construction on the $10.6 million project to continue until late summer or early fall of 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The MLK, Jr.\u00a0 Blvd. underpass is designed to improve driver and pedestrian safety, reduce exhaust emissions, and improve response times for emergency responders.\u00a0 Like its sister Lincoln Avenue underpass, funding for the MLK Jr. Blvd. underpass is coming primarily from state and federal sources.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/MLK-Jr.-Blvd.-Underpass-2-22-13.pdf\">MLK, Jr. Blvd. Underpass (pdf)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contact: Utilities and Engineering Director Debbie Cook \u2013 575-6120 Release Date: February 22nd, 2013 On Monday, February 25th, Mowat Construction Company will begin moving equipment and materials into the area near the BSNF Railroad tracks crossing MLK, Jr. Blvd. in preparation for the start of construction on Yakima&#8217;s newest underpass.
