{"id":7047,"date":"2019-02-26T18:04:48","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T02:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7047"},"modified":"2019-02-26T18:04:49","modified_gmt":"2019-02-27T02:04:49","slug":"census-workers-needed-to-ensure-a-complete-count-in-yakima-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/census-workers-needed-to-ensure-a-complete-count-in-yakima-area\/","title":{"rendered":"Census Workers Needed to Ensure a Complete Count in Yakima Area"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The U.S. Census Bureau is\nencouraging people who live in the Yakima area to apply for a temporary job\nwith the bureau to help make sure data collected during the 2020 Census is as\naccurate as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bureau is in the process of\nhiring thousands of workers to assist with the census next year.&nbsp; Article 1, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution\nrequires that a census be conducted.&nbsp;\nOriginally, the main purpose for conducting a census was to establish\nrepresentation in Congress.&nbsp; Today, in\naddition to its many other benefits, the census is an important tool for\ndetermining how state and federal funding is allocated to local governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe amount of funding the City\nof Yakima is eligible to receive from state and federal sources is impacted by\ncensus data,\u201d said Yakima Mayor Kathy Coffey.&nbsp;\n\u201cFor example, funding for transportation projects, community development\ngrants, and school construction are determined in part by the census\nnumbers.&nbsp; That\u2019s why a complete and\naccurate count is so important,\u201d said Coffey.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How more than $675 billion in\nfederal funding, alone, is allocated to local governments is dependent on\ncensus counts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Census Bureau is looking to\nfill a variety of positions.&nbsp; Pay ranges\nfor those positions vary.&nbsp; A Census Taker\nin the Yakima area, for example, will make $14.50 an hour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone interested in learning more about positions being offered by the Census Bureau and how they can apply for a job is encouraged to visit the bureau\u2019s website at<a href=\"https:\/\/2020census.gov\/jobs\">https:\/\/2020census.gov\/jobs<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/2020-Census-Workers-Needed-News-Release.pdf\">2020 Census Workers Needed &#8211; News Release<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/2020-Census-Workers-Needed-News-Release.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Census Bureau is encouraging people who live in the Yakima area to apply for a temporary job with the bureau to help make sure data collected during the 2020 Census is as accurate as possible.
