{"id":7159,"date":"2019-03-29T08:44:48","date_gmt":"2019-03-29T15:44:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7159"},"modified":"2019-03-29T08:44:49","modified_gmt":"2019-03-29T15:44:49","slug":"city-manager-to-announce-police-chief-selection-at-news-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/city-manager-to-announce-police-chief-selection-at-news-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"City Manager to Announce Police Chief Selection at News Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yakima City Manager Cliff Moore will announce\nthe person he has chosen to become Yakima\u2019s next police chief during a news conference that will\ntake place today at 1:00 pm in the Council Chambers\nat Yakima City Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, five police chief candidates were\nin Yakima for a series of interviews and \u201cMeet &amp; Greet\u201d sessions.&nbsp; The five candidates who went through the\ninterview process last week are Darrel Lowe, currently interim captain of\npolice for the Criminal Investigations Division of the Santa Monica, California\nPolice Department, Jason Horton, currently the director of the Riverside\nCounty, California Code Enforcement Department, Matthew Murray, currently a\npolice lieutenant for the Denver, Colorado Police Department, Donald Treat,\ncurrently an assistant special agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of\nInvestigation office in Los Angeles, California, and Michael Lester, currently\nthe assistant police chief in Vancouver, Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The five candidates were chosen from an original\npool of 23 applicants.&nbsp; Last Thursday,\nthe candidates were interviewed by four separate panels.&nbsp; One of the panels was made up of law\nenforcement professionals, one consisted of members of unions that represent\nYakima Police Department (YPD) staff, one panel was comprised of community\nmembers, and one panel included senior City staff members.&nbsp; Each candidate was also individually\ninterviewed by Moore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The candidates also took part last Friday in\ntwo \u201cMeet &amp; Greet\u201d sessions \u2013 one with YPD staff and one with members of\nthe Yakima community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The candidate Moore has chosen to become the next Yakima police chief must still pass psychological and polygraph testing and undergo a comprehensive background check before officially joining the City.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next Yakima police chief will succeed Dominic Rizzi, who held the position from spring 2012 until fall 2018.\u00a0 The Yakima police chief oversees a department that includes about 190 total employees.\u00a0 The total 2019 YPD budget is just over $30 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Police-Chief-Selection-News-Release.pdf\">Police Chief Selection &#8211; News Release<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/6\/files\/sites\/6\/Police-Chief-Selection-News-Release.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yakima City Manager Cliff Moore will announce the person he has chosen to become Yakima\u2019s next police chief during a news conference that will take place today at 1:00 pm in the Council Chambers at Yakima City Hall.
