{"id":7185,"date":"2019-04-02T09:07:07","date_gmt":"2019-04-02T16:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7185"},"modified":"2019-04-02T09:07:08","modified_gmt":"2019-04-02T16:07:08","slug":"free-community-cleanup-for-yakima-neighborhoods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/free-community-cleanup-for-yakima-neighborhoods\/","title":{"rendered":"Free Community Cleanup for Yakima Neighborhoods"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Residents in one area of Yakima will have the opportunity\nto spruce up their neighborhoods on Saturday, April 13<sup>th<\/sup> during a\nfree Community Cleanup event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Households located from South 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street to Interstate\n82 between East Chestnut Avenue and Pacific Avenue are eligible to participate\nin the free cleanup. Residents in those areas can bring their\nitems to a temporary disposal site at the Yakima Speedway parking lot, 1600\nPacific Avenue, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on April 13<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No commercial waste, construction or\ndemolition debris, concrete, car parts or hazardous waste will be accepted at\nthe temporary disposal site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each household will be limited to no more\nthan four tires (passenger car and small truck tires only). No household\nhazardous waste will be accepted during the cleanup event. However, the Terrace\nHeights landfill does have an ongoing program through which it accepts\nhousehold hazardous waste for free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is a great opportunity for\npeople living in the designated cleanup area to get rid of items they no longer\nneed for free,&#8221; said City of Yakima Refuse &amp; Recycling Manager Loretta\nZammarchi.&nbsp; &#8220;By doing so, they will\nhelp keep our community safe, clean, and healthy.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, volunteers from local\nchurches and Safe Yakima will offer curbside pick-up in the designated cleanup\narea from 8:00 am to 11:30 am. Items not at the curb or alley by 8:00 am will\nnot be picked up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We encourage residents in the\ndesignated cleanup area to sign up as teams in their respective blocks and work\nwith their neighbors to help,&#8221; said Zammarchi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Volunteers will also be needed to assist\nstaff at the disposal site, Zammarchi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Call the City of Yakima Refuse Division at\n576-6739 for more information about the April 13<sup>th<\/sup> Community Cleanup\nevent.
