{"id":7230,"date":"2019-04-12T09:25:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-12T16:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/?p=7230"},"modified":"2019-04-12T09:41:03","modified_gmt":"2019-04-12T16:41:03","slug":"east-west-corridor-project-open-house-planned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yakimawa.gov\/media\/news\/east-west-corridor-project-open-house-planned\/","title":{"rendered":"East-West Corridor Project Open House Planned"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An open house to discuss phasing and design of the East-West Corridor\nProject will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm next Wednesday, April 17<sup>th<\/sup>,\nat the Yakima Convention Center, 10 N. 8<sup>th<\/sup> Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A listening\nsession to receive public comment for the project&#8217;s National Environmental\nPolicy Act (NEPA) review, the open house is hosted by the City of Yakima and\nYakima County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The East-West\nCorridor Project will provide an alternative Yakima River crossing\ntransportation corridor to connect the growing neighborhood of Terrace Heights\nto the City of Yakima and relieve congestion along Yakima Avenue and at other\nintersections in the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The new\ncorridor will open up opportunity for new public transit routes, improved\nemergency response times, and non-vehicular transportation,&#8221; said Joan\nDavenport, Director of Community Development for the City of Yakima.\n&#8220;Improvements to the transportation network are desperately needed due to\nthe high rates of projected population growth for the Yakima area over the next\n20 years.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The corridor\nwill connect with the improvements on H Street in the City of Yakima and\ncontinue eastward under Interstate 82 and across the Yakima River. There will\nbe access to I-82 from the new corridor.
